Road Cycling - pelvis positioning for power?

ya ya I know, but my (dumb) question is:
is it better to roll the pelvis forward (ie belly button forward and down) or neutral or pelvis rolled backward?
...for TT?
...for climbing?
Forwards will require wicked long hams.
Which best opens the thorax for ventilation?

Technically, keeping your back straight and tilting from your hips allows you to breath better. I just don't think the human body really works that way.

It can. It depends on the person and where you come from. I noticed in India that people working in the rice fields just fold over right at the hip, legs extended. Their posture is amazing, bending or standing. I suppose that's why similar postures are emphasized in yoga to free the hips. I takes a lot of practice, but one real benefit is that you will not get any backache from cycling. You can really get aero easily. I don't know great the forward pelvis position is for power.

In tai-chi, I learned to tuck my pelvis in, rather than stick it out like a duck. This opens out the spine at the rear, and can help generate more power(in punches and kicks). I transferred the tequnique to the bike, and its more comfortable. Cant say if its any faster.

my physical therapist said that I should bend at the hips and basically stick my sternum/belly out. he said that when you bend your back in the middle it creates a lot of stress on those particular vertibrae there. seems like a good idea, and sincce then, I haven't had any back pain on the bike, unless I get really tired and my posture starts to suck, hunchback city there...
