Who's up for a ride of 60-70ish miles through some of Summit, Wayne and Stark counties? We'll go through a bit of Amish country (buggies and all), a bit of the old Lincoln Highway and have a food break at about mile 45...they have root beer floats too. :)
Anyone up for trying to schedule this for early October, after the Copley and Norton rides, but before the Red Flannel in November? I'm betting on a long, mild fall this year.
Chip I will give you a definite maybe! I love riding in that area, BTW what is the 411 on the cider ride in Norton? Is it worth it? DAN
Chimpcom, Dont forget about the LIbrary roll in Fredricksburgh next sat. 62 or 100 miles of the best hills around!!!!

I did Sunday's LEW ride from Valley City to Wooster and back. The Killbuck Valley between Lodi and Wooster was amazing. It was senic/fast!, with the lakes, bridges, tree lined roadways and no hillbilly's in pickups. Will that area be on your ride?

Ok maybe we'll look at the weekends of the 11th or 18th. The route would go from Silver Creek Metropark, south and west to Apple Creek road, south to the Lincoln Highway (old US30), east on the Lincoln highway (part of which is abandoned and we'll have all to ourselves...and a few buggies) till it merges back with 30, then south and east through some nice back roads through Amish country till we turn back north and come out in Dalton, east and north from there into Massillon, where we'll stop at the Ernie's bike shop complex for some ice cream (or a turn north and stop at Hartzler's), then continue on back up through Canal Fulton and Clinton back to Silver Creek. Some of the roads have faster traffic, but light traffic for the most part.

Not enough food stops for me... besides, I hear a new iceage (though very short) is coming for you all. Anything below 65 degrees requires me to add antifreeze...
(though I am tempted...)

Chipcom, Be carefull of the construction on the dead lanes of old 30. (I think they are calling it 30 A now) They will be opening them back up twords the end of October.
Are you thinking about running Applecreek road all the way to 30? There is a lot of traffic now between 585 and 30 now, and not much of a berm. If it would not be to forward of me I could suggest a coulpe of roads less traveled and a little more senic.
If you do it on the 11th I may be able to hook up with you. 18th is out as Orrvile Cross starts on Sunday the 19th.

I ride that route just about every weekend...traffic isn't bad...and we don't need no stinkin shoulder! ;)
So far I don't see much progress towards doing anything with those closed-down lanes on the old Lincoln Highway. The Amish seem to have taken it over.
But I am open to other roads..these are just the ones Cheri and I usually ride and are familiar with.

Drafting nirvana. Need to get cages for these: http://www.steincenter.com/stein/pc/catalog/01-21-2121105s.jpg
The dead lanes are part of my daily commute. West of Applecreek road up to the plazza where RKO is the center lane is ground out getting ready for pavement, leaving a very narrow lane on each side. Traffice is over the white line in the berm
West of AppleCreekcreak the were doing something right in the area of Bowman Feed. It looked like they were hot patching holes.
Down by Carr road it looks as if they will be surfacing soon. They have the old lanes dug out, and I have yet to figure out how the are connecting them on to Carr.
This project is supposed to be compleated by the 31 of October. According to the county enginers office they are going to reopen the east bound lanes to traffic It's going to be one lane east and one lane west witih a wide buggy, bike, farm machinerylane on each side. (east/west bound). The bad part of this plan is they are going to chip and seal all of the surfaces.
Apple Creek road to five points to Chippawa then Paradise road to Crown hill, till it becomes Church. Right on to Kansas and the straight down Kansas to 241 outside of MT hope.

bummer. I can probably change up and go over to Marshallville, then down to Dalton, then on through some of the nice Amish country south of Dalton, then back up into Massilon. I'll ping you and we can put our heads together for a decent route. ;)

Yeah, I've gone that way before...that stretch of Church seems to get some aholes though. So are you thinking we could come back up through Mt. Eaton and West Lebanon, maybe up Alabama so we can glide into Massillon on Wooster.
Once you hit 241 out side of mt hope you could go east on Holmes county 200 and either go up Winesburg road to Mt Eaton Then shoot htat little section of 250 (about 300 yards) catch Harrison and teh take Zerchyer (sic) over to wanger and that will drop you into Dalton Or west Lebon would be a good road also.
