Road Bike Racing - Vuelta ***spoiler***

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So where are all the "Levi is not a good racer" posters now?
Who said he wasn't good?
The guy is a pure stage racer.
The kind that gets stronger as he goes and rarely cracks.
btw- my first year in Belgie was 1995. I saw him in the paper one day winning the Ronde van Namen (Tour de Namur) overall. This is a big stage race for amateurs and I thought, who the hell is that. Built for the multi-day from the start.

There were several threads in the spring where lots of people were dumping on him IIRC.
edit How about the Lazy Loser thread? But that was 2007.

Contador let him win (perhaps on orders from above). It was a total gift.
I just wrote that to cause trouble.

Watch out for Levi at Worlds... I wouldn't bet against him there either. All the "haters" can't handle the consistent results he achieves. Excitement is great to watch, but consistent podiums in the major races is better over the long run. Let Levi Ride = Most Everyone Else Who's Name Isn't Contador Eats His Dust.

Levi's my boy. But too loyal. Had he not marked Sastre that one day, he could've won the overall.

It's the nature of sports that we like to talk about hypotheticals. But if Levi hadn't done X, it's also possible that Contador might have done Y. I have a hard time believing that Levi could have beaten Contador if they were on separate teams, but you never know.

I thought it was pretty weird that none of the Caisse d'Epargne riders where wearing shoe covers. Not sure it would of helped in a hill climb TT, but every other team was wearing them from what I could see.

Sure, botto, Levi's boring. The world gets that.
Pure speculation question here.... How much time would you estimate Levi gave up on the GC while he marked Sastre on the Angliru?
Watching Levi sit on Sastre's wheel during that stage and then powering away from Sastre in the final kilometer, it appeared that Levi has some decent gas left in the tank. Did playing good teammate to Contador on that climb cost Levi the final difference for the overall?
Coulda, woulda, shoulda, but it's something to ponder.
Edit.... KP already asked this question in post #9.

I am not a fan of levi .. and dislike horner even more just to mention.. but levi was absolute class this race and showed he can win a GT. I would like to see him leave Astana for a strong team with some faith in him.
he is still boring tho.. but one helluva TT'er. Im willing to say he is right there with Spartacus in the time trial.

Maybe if he wasn't so angry at the world he can find his own Odessa. I doubt it though... Sounds like it's too late for sad old Botto.

Yes you look to be at eye level, so I guess this is the second confirmation of you being a boob.

He's cooked. Put a fork in 'im.

I always liked Levi, from what I've seen and read in interviews he seems like a nice guy. And he certianly more than proved himself in this year's Vuelta not only being the consumate team mate to Contedor, but proving himself a strong rider as well by capturing 2nd in the overall.
Still I wonder though how much effect sitting out the TdF had on their overall success in Spain. I'm sure Astana had the freshest legs in all of Spain.

I wondered the same thing. While Sastre, Valverde and others were toiling through 3 weeks in July at the sports toughest race were elsewhere observing. I would think that it had to make a difference although
there is nothing that Astana could do about being excluded from the Tour.
Sastre never ceases to amaze me with his season long performances. He's one of the true Ironmen of cycling. Valverde although he had a couple of bad days still represented himself well on the Angliru and the final ITT.
