I need a longer seatpost for my bike as I have outgrown the current one. What is the differance between the 5 and 20mm offset (and don't say 15mm)?

If you have outgrown your seatpost, you have actually outgrown the frame.

But, to answer you question. The offset is the amount that the seatpost shifts to the rear of the bike compaired to a straight post (0 offset). A 20mm offset will move the saddle back 20mm compaired to a straight post.

I assume since you "outgrew" your seatpost/bike you are still in your teens to early 20's and haven't finished growing.

As Avalanche325 said - it is time to get fitted to a new bike! You do not want the seat post to be longer than it is meant to be. This is for safety reasons (both handeling and parts fatigue). If the bike is not intended to take an extra long seat post don't try it!!
