So I was reading a bunch of posts about diy bags, and came across this post (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=466035&highlight=masonite). I was thinking it might be a good project for a Saturday afternoon, so I put it off. Then this morning, I got this looking at me:

Note the very empty bowl.

So, having picked up a rack a few days ago, I finally put it on the bike (it's a Raleigh Record, late 80's I believe?), and dug up some bags my wife had fetched a few months ago:

It's not as pretty, and I didn't have any masonite (and as the pet store is next to the hardware store, I couldn't really drive over for the board, drive back, and then ride back to the same place).

However, even without the board, it produced the desired results:

I live near enough to the grocery store that I usually walk, but for the pet store, auto parts store, pharmacy, liquor store, and the lbs, I'll be on the bike. I'm hoping to find some coroplast or plexi for walls in the next few days to keep spoke rub down. The exercise alone was worth the trip, and I got a happy dog for free. Not quite car free, but we're getting there.

That's sweet that your dog's happy now. Nice pictures.

My dog, however, is enormous. He eats and craps huge. I haven't tried to go to the store to buy a big bag of dog food yet. Maybe I need a trailer.

I almost bought the big bag (they last about 5 months) and thought about just dumping half in each side. I felt bad riding all the way there and back only to use more packaging. Next time I'll bring the big plastic tubs we keep the food in at home. Oh well.

That's great! :)

When this subforum first started, a lot of people posted that they couldn't be carfree because they would have no way to get pet food home from the store. This got to be a pretty funny joke for a while. :D
