Ok so yesterday i stumbled upon a bike at a garage sale in which i had to have. I looked really old due to the body style, paint etc. so i bought it. It cost me 80 $$. This thing just screams vintage. It has two little headlights that still work!! The little tank b/tween the frame says fleetwing and on the chain guard it says Mercury II. After some re-search i believe it was made by Mercury in 61. I want to know what the actual value of this darn thing really is so i turned to this forum for the answer. Please help me out here... i need a true honest answer if at all possible. Oh and by the way im NOT, i repeat NOT going to sell it haha going 2 be a present for Christmas. I plan on restoring this baby. Please help me out with what the actuall value of this thing really is!! thx :thumb:

here are some pics of the bike:

Very nice & it looks to be in original condition. Be AWARE, that it is original only once, & restoring it may very well LOWER the value of a bike. Clean, grease, wax, polish, &&& ride.

We have a price guide on our site which shows Fleetingwings and other similar middleweights of that era.

to oldroads:
you had replied to my post and ive noticed that on your website i cant find the bike itself. It has 22 inch tires no the 26 inch tires it seems to be a childs size. one question is how would i go about re-upholstering the seat?

I see nothing wrong with the saddle.

Can you post some larger photos?

Mercury bicycles were made by Murray.
Clean it, polish it, wax it, tune it up... but don't "restore" it.

of course.

here you go just click on it and it will enlarge in a new window:

Bronze wool on the rivets followed by Flitz metal polish, and use a vinyl cleaner on the rest. Nothing else.

Replace saddle with something that is more comfortable for you. Save original saddle.

P.S.: How did you arrive at the '61 date? There are no Murray serial charts that I know of.
