Classic & Vintage - Paramount ... a new stablemate

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I picked up this '88 Paramount yesterday. It a 60cm with mostly Dura-Ace. Supposedly its been repainted and I'll assume so as it doesnt have any anniversary badging. It has a goofy threadless stem convertor thats getting the ax asap.
In the background of the last pic you can see a 1985 Peugeot PH501 that I bought from forum member 'Lem in Pa' on the same trip.

Yes, very nice present for yourself!
Reminds me of myself, it does.

A bike hunting (or gathering!) trip! How cool! Judging by your handle and Lem's did you drive from Miami to PA? That's enthusiasm and dedication!
Nice bike - and an intriguing set-up: the brifters I mean. Is there a story behind that? The Peugeot looks good too

John and East Hill thanks for the birthdays wishes!!!
db, 'Lem in PA' actualy lives outside or Jupiter on the east coast of Florida while I live in Tampa. After stumbling across the Paramount, located outside of Ft. Lauderdale, I quickly perused CL looking for something else to buy to help spread the expenses of my trip. While I was in Ft. Lauderdale I made a quick trip to my optomtrists for my bi-annual eye exam. I hadnt had them checked since I sold my house in Miami 2 years ago.
From Tampa I shot across the middle of the state and down the turnpikes to Lems and picked up the Peugeot. From there I drove down to Weston, a Ft. Lauderdale/Miami suburb, for the Paramount then backwards about 15 miles for my eye exam. For my retrun trip to Tampa I took a more southern route across alligator alley. (yes, you can see gators) I made a 560 mile loop yesterday!!!
As far as the brifters go I could only guess that the owner likes nice things and upgraded or perhaps the reach for DT shifters was to far. He's a nice guy whos into biking and has mostly high end stuff.
Jim
Congrats and happy B-Day MJ,
It is a sweet looking machine

Nice bike !! I have an 88 Paramount in the strawberry color with Dura Ace and Shimano 600 parts on it. Always a thrill to ride it.
