i *think* my chain popped off while sprinting for the win. I can only guess I torqued my wheel forward in the track ends. i cant think of anything else that would have sent me over the bars

Next time you want to make the news how about just writing an editorial or something.

Show off.

Glad you didn't break anything. How's your bicycle?

Lithuania

bikes fine. combination of cheap heavy steal and no drive train makes it a lot harder to really damage.

is that compression, or do you have a sleeve on your left calf as well? ;)

Pedaling so hard you put a bow in the seat tube. Glad you weren't hurt.

Oof. It looks as though you were able to avoid a faceplant by landing on Man's Best friend [shudder].

Also, that perspective's messing with me -- the bike that the other dude is riding has nice round wheels, you appear to be riding Biopace shaped rims???

Guess you got stronger over the last year eh?

Glad you're okay. Tighten down harder next time ;)

It's an artifact of the way the picture is taken: one point in space (the finish line) through a period of time instead of the usual one point in time like a snapshot.

So his front wheel was turning as he slid over the line, and we see different parts of the wheel from different angles.

Also note the spokes of the upright rider. Because the tire is spinning as he crosses the line, the spokes get photographed at different angles around the hub.

Here is a better-quality version than the one on cyclingnews. If you look really hard, you can see the finish line. Lithuania, I wish I knew your name. If I did, I would have included it in the caption for cyclingnews. Next time you see me at a race- tell me your name, dammit.

SR--did you shave before charm city? I saw one dude on a san jose yesterday, but he was clean shaven. anyway... sucks that you ate it, but awesome job nonetheless. how did you do at charm city?

Lithuania

yeah i had a shaving mishap yesterday which resulted me in shaving everything. I had mechanicals in both the c and b race that ended my racing early but I didnt have it anyway after my effort and crash on saturday.

jesus do i hurt today

Yeah, the camera shoots a vertical slit, in a video. So it only sees one column of pixels in each frame. The frames of the video are then set next to each other for finish photo. That's why there are so many horizontal lines -- stationary features in that vertical column.

If something rotates through there, it will appear bent. Note that the spokes on the bottom of the upright rider's wheels look pretty normal, because the bottom of a bicycle wheel isn't moving. The further they get from the fulcrum (bottom), the more bent they look.

I was a pit ref on Sunday. I witnessed the 2nd mechanical. Me and the other pit ref were laughing our arses off at Lith's expense when he threw his crank arm in woods and tried to go it one-legged.

Oh my lith...

Hm. This kinda makes me want to buy a BD single speed/fg cross bike and have at it at the the cross races...

Man... I hope you have better luck after this. Though this is so badass and the beard was badass. After shaving race pics?

Maybe next year.

Edit: I just wanted to say, again, that I'm damn glad that you're okay. And LMAO at throwing your crank arm into the woods and trying to do the race with one leg!!!

Lithuania

i would have went another lap without that crank arm if I didnt have to go immediately uphill after the pit. I probably shouldnt have been racing at all yesterday. I dont think I realized how hurt I got from that crash the day before. It definitely hurts to breath deep today.

shaving was a real sad moment. i woke up the morning of the race with the intention of just shaving my beard and waxing the mustache i had been cultivating since last october. Unfortunately, my clipper stopped working with only a quarter of my beard shaved. I broke out the scissors to attempt and cut off the rest but it took too long so i panicked and cut it all off since i had less than an hour before I needed to be at the race.

I was totally going to rock the snidely whiplash look trenchcoat and all in the C race
