So right now I am running the stock tires on my new Specialized Tricross SingleCross which are Specialized Houffalize Sport CX, 700x32c, wire bead, 60TPI. I am running them at 75psi which is probably too high because im about 155lbs. Today I was riding in golden gate park for the second time on some of the trails and ate it really bad on a sharp gravel turn tearing up my arm and bar tape then ate it a few more times on sand patches which were a little more forgiving.

I ordered a set of the Ritchey Speedmax Pro 700x32c because I herd they were good on hard pack but I am extreamly inexperienced in any off road riding so think I need something that might give me better stability. Would running a larger knobbier tire in front help like a 35c mud tire and 32c speedmax in the back? Also what psi would your reccomend?

Thanks for any advice.

I'd run both Speedmax tires, front and rear and run them around 40psi.

Go fatter, on the front especially. I really like the WTB Mutanoraptor 44, but they don't make it anymore. I saw some Kenda Small Block 8 35's on a couple bikes the other day and they look like something I will try next. I couldn't get the Speedmax 32's to quit flatting. I was running them at 85psi and still pinch flatting. I run the Mutanoraptor at 40 or 50psi.

Alright I am gonna try a Kenda Cross Supreme 35c in the front and one of the 30c Ritcheys in the back at about 45 psi.

Thanks for the advice guys. Hopefully I don't eat it too bad on the gravel again.
