I love new bikes and the bling, but you can't go wrong with old fixer upers! I could kill allot of hours and beers cleaning up and tuneing up those babies.

So what are some good names to look for at tag sales. I'm guessing not all older bikes are worth fixing up.

Names to avoid:

Magna
Huffy
Schwinn (if it has a Wal-mart sticker on it.)

I think I am absolutely and totally infatuated with the Silver bike. I want one!

Nice finds. I hope you know that collecting old bikes and working on them is an incurable disease, lol. Congratulations on the affliction!

LOL.. yeah I have had this disease now for quite some time. I am really looking forward to the silver one, but from hat I found online there aren't many in the USA. KTM's are German??? and so a few items may be harder to find. Guess I will find out

KTM is Austrian. They were bicycle and scooter builders before John Penton approached them about building a purpose built off road/enduro 2-stroke motorcycle for use in the International Six Days Trial.

The partnership was successful and in 1978 KTM bought out John's interest and the rest is off road motorcycle history.

I have restored several vintage Penton/KTM motorcycles over the years, and have a couple in my garage either finished or awaiting attention.

Interestingly, the original KTM factory was located just down the road from the Puch factory. Another Austrian builder that produced bicycles as well as scooters and low displacement road motorcycles.
