Credit to Graham Watson.com. Take a look. It's pretty tight. I particularly like the flames. Alsojust to mention Lance gained a gap of over 7 minutes to Ullrich. It's early in the season and both LA and JU are just testing but hopefully a sign of things to come for Lance fans.

I'm pretty sure that thats all USPS uses.

that bike looks way too short (lenght wise).

In the case of stage 1, it was the incredible crosswinds on the course that split the peloton up. It's not like Lance took off solo and blew away Jan. However, in today's TT, Lance had over a minute on Jan. I wouldn't put much stock in these results, though. We still have four months till the Tour starts, and a lot can change in that amount of time.

At this point in the season they're just playing with
each other, scoping out gear, condition etc.
The real fun won't start until the Tour starts
(where is that this year?). Whats really nice is to see
the other results that USPS is getting, I think the blue train while not the same makeup as previous years looks
to be quite strong.

yeah it is all just testing, and the usps are looking good, with there sprinter taking 3 wins already this year. I also i read in cycle sport february issue that lance uses a stock frame so it might be a little to short, he didn't get a custom frame because trek wants the bike to be as it would be if we bought it.

OneTinSloth
03-04-04, 03:24 PM
i think he had a stock frame last year and the year before that too...i think it's a pretty cool idea, since trek doesn't make custom frames for joe-average anyway...good marketing on their part.

RacerX
03-04-04, 03:55 PM
It's not marketing. Trek CAN'T make custom frames so that is why everyone runs stock sizes.

MERTON
03-04-04, 04:29 PM
he should get a merlin.

OneTinSloth
03-04-04, 04:32 PM
it's marketing if they make it known. and if it's advertised as THE SAME GEOMETRY LANCE RIDES!!! which it is in most shops i've been to.

it's not that they can't, so much as they don't because it would cost too much.

OneTinSloth

Has anybody heard anything about Tyler Hamilton yet?

OneTinSloth
03-04-04, 04:51 PM
here's an interview with him that was done on the 3rd. (http://www.phonak-cycling.ch/News/Aktuelles/Interview%20Tyler%20Hamilton,%2003.03.2004/)

he seems pretty stoked to start racing again...i guess he's gonna do his first race since august this weekend.

RacerX
03-04-04, 04:52 PM
it's not that they can't, so much as they don't because it would cost too much.

That's what I said, they can't make custom frames.

You're right, it's marketing to advertise that but it's also deceptive because it's not like they have a choice and decided to ride stock.

Just as when Robbie McKwen and Andre Tchmil were on Litespeeds. They both rode stock 53cm Vortex and Ghisallos.
In fact, most of the Lotto team rode stock frames even though they had the choice of going full custom, and the few customs were longer top tubes which is the racer's trend to fit on the smallest possible frame (just like Pettachi's custom sized Dogma and Prince SL).

About the TT at the Vuelta a Murcia? Here's my take: When you're a serious Tour contender, focusing your season almost solely to get to the top of the podium, a race like this one isn't about where you end up on the GC. Sure, Jan "lost" 7 minutes, here. My guess is he was maybe working on, or learnin' something that might gain him 7 seconds in July. Orrrr... maybe he's just plain tubby. :)

Sure is a nice looking bike though! You're right about that.

Because most people who buy a bike like that would swap out the pedals anyway.

Not only is that limited Madone fugly, it's overpriced. It looks to be a standard Madone with a funky paintjob, different stem, different bars, and possibly a different fork. All for only $2K for than a standard Madone. Colnago's 50th Anniversary bike costs maybe a few hundred more than a standard C50 for lovely fully custom 50th Anniversary components.

That poster is ugly, it looks like a he/she in drag. Look at the lips.

That poster was created in the style of Alphonse Mucha, one of the premier French Art Nouveau poster artist during the late 1800s and early 1900s. That's the way Lance would have been portrayed during the beginnings of the Tour de France. Personally, I would have painted him in the bicycle clothing of that era.

RacerX
03-05-04, 01:18 AM
Yes it is imitating Art Nouveau but if you say it is in Mucha's style, the poor man is rolling over in his grave.

You're right the old clothes would be a cool idea but it's an ad so... it's well (ish) done.

The paintjob is beautiful on that Trek. You can not like the colors but the graphics are well done.

errrr it's a TREK, slighty higher than a Kmart special in terms of brand image.
So what if lance rides it. We all know he'd buy a Litespeed ;)

Man, if I spent $7000 for a Trek I would have a plastic spoke protector, a plastic frame condom, a hermatically sealed box to put it in and a request that someone re-insert my brain into my skull because I would never spend $7K on a Trek even with 1/2 a brain!

jkoman

I would imagine that spoke protector is another gift from the members of society who seek to get rich because they can't adjust a derailleur and then seek out a hungry attorney to assist them

lotek
03-05-04, 10:47 AM
I'm not so sure its a spoke protector, maybe
part of his powertap system or such? looks like sensor
units or something on it. The full pic of the bike doesn't
have it on it.
then again I might be totally wrong on this. . .
The Colnago 50th aniversary bike is what $11k with tubulars?
thats a bargain.

merton, you are missing the point. trek is lance's sponser. he has to ride treks, or lose his pay.

and as supcom said, most cyclists buying 7000 dollar bikes have set preferences for what pedals they like to ride, and they would end up swapping them anyway...

What's with all the attacks on Trek. You get a good bike for the money and all frames above a 1000 are handbuilt in the U.S..

The Colnago 50th aniversary bike is what $11k with tubulars? thats a bargain.

$6.5-7K depending on the dealer. At http://www.competitivecyclist.com/ the 50th Anniversary is $6600 while a C50 with Record components is $6100. My whole point was that even though it's a limited edition, they're not charging a few thousand more. Part of that price difference even comes from the fact that you're getting Colnago's carbon cranks rather than aluminum Record.

The De Rosa 50th Anniversary, on the other hand... that sucker's $11K.

I was over at RBM today and was talking to the owner,
