View Full Version : Boulder 'Velodrome'??

In the September 2008 issue of Rocky Mountain Sports there is a brief mention of the 'velodrome' - a '138 meter track' - on page 8. This got me excited and I drove to the location today during lunch... Doors locked, no cars in the parking lot, but on the building there was a banner announcing the velodrome. So, I peaked in the windows and I saw nothing but an empty warehouse, a warehouse so small I could not imagine a velodrome... Is 138 meters adequate anyway???

Well, it seems like a good idea, but who knows yet if it will be built and, if it is built, will 138 meters be large enough for track racing?

It will be (if it's ever built) really short, steep banks, and also very narrow. No passing lanes really. But it would have provided a great place to stay in riding shape throught the winter. I, for one, am very said that is didn't happen.

I am afraid track cycling would result in me breaking my neck. Still looks like fun.

Oh ****
I was just looking for an excuse to go buy a new bike, now I have a velodrome in my back yard...
Pwnt, are you involved in some official capacity, or did you just sneak in with a camera? Do you know if there are going to be beginner/intro races or something like that?

We, meaning THEY, are surfacing the track at this time. I am trying to be there every night to try and help as much as possible. We, again meaning THEY, could use every possible volunteer they can get there hands on. Contact paul@boulderindoorcycling.com and come help us, I mean them out.

Also check out www.303cycling.com (http://www.303cycling.com) for the latest pics. (I'm the guy in the gray hoodie)

Hey Pwnt, I emailed that guy but I haven't heard back. I've got some free time this weekend, do you know when people will be there working? Do they have set times or is it every day?

I'm signed up for the 8 week Beginner Sat Morning Class, only because they didn't have a lower class I could sign up for. Really looking forward to it.

Found some time to ride the track at Boulder Indoor Cycling. Well worth the money. It was a ton fun. The track is fast and for the most part very smooth. Check it out when you are in the area.

Stopped by today to check out the velodrome - it looks nice and like a lot of fun. Some riders were being checked out to be able to ride the track and so I took a few photos (see below). The size of the track requires some pretty steep banking, but judging by how people were riding it seems to be just fine. Guess I'll have to find me a track bike! :D

Are you going to build up a track bike?

Pwnt

09' Fuji Track Comp or Pro. Haven't decide exactly yet. I like the Pro alot, just not sure I like the integrated seat post. I think it would hurt the resale value of the bike after you cut it to fit you. Ya know?

Yup. I tend to destroy bikes before I would ever have a chance to resell it. An integrated seat post would work well for me.
