I'm looking for a relatively cheap but decent crankset, and keep coming across Shimano RSX in "new old stock" condition. Are these cranks likely to be any good? How would they compare to the current Shimano lineup?

I had a bike in the mid 90's with RSX cranks, hubs and deraileurs. They held up very well from the beating I constantly gave them.

But they do not compare well with todays lineup of stuff IMO.

The RSX cranks are OK. If I remember correctly, they have steel chainrings rather than aluminium. I had a 7 spped set. I don't know if they were made in a 8 speed version.

RSX are cold forged, so are as strong as Al cranks come, and much better than boutique CNC models.
Modern cranks may be hollow, and use splines, but so what. Its a good model, with a good bottom bracket unit, and you can easily upgrade rings.

I have some Rx100 double chainring cranksets for sale. THeir a little lighter than the RSX ones, PM if your interested.

RSX cranks are just as good as anything else Shimano makes.
