So...i told this guy that kinda jerked me around for a bit that i would sell just the frame of a bike that i had for sale (i didn't put in the ad that i would separate the frame) but after 3 weeks i got no bites so...

I told him i would sell him just the frame and tonight i get some guy telling me he is interested in the whole bike...arrrghhh.

What do i do?

Do i have to sell the guy the frame and then screw myself out of 2000 bucks? or tell him i have a possible chance to sell the whole thing?...what do you think?

How valuable is your credibility to you? You made a verbal commitment to do something. And I'm not speaking legal-eze here, I'm simply talking about the "right thing to do".

So let it up to the first guy. If he is serious, sell the frame. If not, follow up on the second lead (which doesn't seem like a lock anyway).

(no - I wasn't the guy interested in either :P )

I don't think there are many people who would still sell just the frame unless it's someone you know and will continue to see.

All, thanks for your words of wisdom and all though i understand the point to keep my word i have been dealing with the frame buyer for 3 weeks now so i am not even sure he is a sure thing.

I sent an email to both of them letting the new guy know he has 24 hours to come see the bike and make his decision. I apologized to the frame buyer and asked him to understand my desire to sell the whole bike for $2300ish rather than just the frame for $475.

I would have done that.

If your intention was to sell the complete bike then do it.

It's a lot of work to remove the components then you have to worry about unloading those. That will cost you a lot of time.

The frame guy played with you for a while. If he was serious, he would have taken it right then and there.

If he didn't play with you for three weeks and was willing to take it right away then I would have stuck to what I said and sold the frame.

+1 - sell the whole bike if you still can.

You normally can end up getting more money in the end by parting a bike out and selling it that way.

True dat - but ya gotta figure in time and space and labor involved...not everyone wants to deal with that.

I don't see any problem with selling to the second person as long as you hadn't actually reached an agreement to sell to the first. It sounds like you were still in the negotiating phase of the deal, and he hadn't made a commitment to buy, nor you to sell.
