Anyone have one of these? Or have tried one? Other than a bit heavy, does it have any design flaws or compromises? Or anything I should look out for in buying a used unit?
I am intending to use it for wkend rides in an area w/ hills.
Thank you.

You buying the machine that was down in Huntsville, AL.? Looked like a great deal to me. Almost bid on it myself before it went to Ebay. Did appear to be a little chunky in the weight department. I think those are real sturdy, heavy duty bikes though.

Thanks for the response. I bid on the Alabama one, but lost. I found another on the west coast.

Speedmachine was my first recumbent in 2002. It's a touring bike in my opinion. It is extremely comfortable and beautifully made. It was not fast, but the ride is smooth and luxurious. Not a mountain goat.

Atom,
Thanks for the response. What did you replace the Speedmachine w/? And what design differences could make a bent be better at mountain riding?

Speedmachine sold and got a high racer. Better climber than the Speedmachine due to lower weight, and no suspension. In my opinion, the best design for fast day rides in varied terrain is a high racer (Bacchetta, Volae, RANS F5), provided you like a high bottom bracket. If not, low bottom bracket/long wheelbase bikes like RANS V3, or Easy Racers Tour Easy/Gold Rush can be good climbers. Between those two an option is a Lightning P-38.

That is a nice bike. I put a Rohloff on my Raptobike though it doesn't have a motor.

Here are the build plans on my Raptobike
