My PC tower from humming? And why does it hum/buzz?
Aaaargh....slow torture to my hypersensitive hearing. Please help Foo geek squad.

Dirty fans. If you know what you are doing you can actually pull the fan's apart (the blades from the motor) to clean and lubricate them.

Humming? Teach it to sing, Dipper. And buy it a Coke.

Has it always hummed, or is this a new development?

Intermittent humming. Now it has increased to operatic levels ala Rimsky-Korsakov.

Weird. When I touch it, it stops.
Hmmm...static impedance?

main sources for noise from the PC:
hard drives and fans
I believe your fans might need cleaning or replacing.

I'm actually writing my BF messages by snail mail, which are then submitted to the forum by a proxy.

Possibly case side or some part is just slightly loose.
put a cotton towel underneath the computer and use a towel as a drape cloth on the computer.
I smack my front panel a few times when my computer starts humming. fixes it right up.

Okay, I just hit the side of it and said "Aaayyyyy" in a laid back Italian-American accent and it stopped.

I used to have a loud case that I think was due to side panel that was never on fully/correctly. That was my solution too - a good whack now and then.

Ha ha. That'll teach it.
Fans get noisy as they age (hard drives as well, but fans even moreso). Bearings wear, dust cakes on, things get crappy. The cheapest fix is to remove the fans, and remove the dust (blow out the interior of the computer while you're at it, it can get bad in there). Your next step would be to replace the fans with high-quality, low-speed, low-noise fans.
If you want to get nuts, and don't need a very powerful computer, you could build up a completely fanless computer, or even a computer with no moving parts.

Yup. That seems to be it. Front panel was buzzing. Thanks for all the help, and Happy Birthday.

I had the same question when I discovered that the kill switch on my new (to me) dirt bike wasn't working. :p

Your fans might be buzzing for the following reasons:
- The air vents are clogged with dust, and your fans are spinning faster to move more air out,
- The fan motors need lubrication,
- The heatsink for your processor (or other intensive chip) is damaged, or
- The computer hates you.
Assuming that the latter case is probably not the cause, the first step I would take is buying a can of compressed air and blowing out all of your vents. This should clear up most cooling issues. If the fans continue to whir loudly, open the computer case and try to hear for the problematic fan. When you've think you've found it, turn your computer off and spray a little bit of WD-40 into the middle of the fan unit. This can get a little complicated without a picture or two; remind me by PM if you need them.
If you've tried the above and neither works, then your heatsink might need replacement.

I see that you've solved it. I'll leave my post up for anyone else that has fan problems.

Yeah, but when the fan's stop spinning after being junked up with WD-40, they will not make any noise.

I just got my gear Sunday and took it for a spin around the parking lot, didn't have a chance yet to get into the dirt yet (bit of a drive to get there) but hopefully this weekend. Feels very comfy.

Getting to the dirt is a pain in the ass (Well, unless you have a trailhead in the backyard like I do:D) which is why dual sports can be nice. More expensive and a pain in the ass to get, though...
Oh, if you go, we need pics:D
