Tandem Cycling - Just ordered a new triplet

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have lurked for awhile but just had to post. I just ordered a Bushnell triplet from Mel at Tandems East! He is very helpful with advice on outfitting the bike.
I bought a used Santana Encore about three years ago and have had much enjoyment with my children. I wanted a triplet to ride with my oldest daughter and son.
It will probably be several weeks for Mel to work into schedule. I hopefully will have it in a couple of months and will post pictures.

Welcome to the select (rare) circle of triplet owners.
Congrats on your upcoming new triplet! :thumb: Can't wait to see the pics too!

Is it coupled? If not how do you plan to transport it, assuming you will want to travel to get to some rides.
I'm happy for you all and yes, jealous :)! Please update on the process if you can.

Here's our current solution...... should work for another year or 2, but then the little guy will be over the weight limit for the piccolo...... We just did our 1st Century, albeit a metric...... climbed up and over Donner Summit from the east and the west..... the kids loved the experience.... especially the pizza and spaghetti at the end :backpedal::giver::giver:

Transporting. It is not coupled. I have a suburban and plan to transport inside car. I have thought about an extended top rack but will first try inside my vehicle.
One of my main reasons for the triplet is the MS150 and some other local rides. The MS150 do not allow the trailer bike to make a triple out of a tandem. My 10 yr old wants to join with daughter and I for the ride. I figure with 5 kids down to two years old, I hope to have many years enjoyment.
Interesting side note: Mel said that typically a triplet is used by a famliy about 5 to 7 years and then sold. I hope I can beat that mark by about 5 additional years.

Triplets are a lot of fun and super fast!!
We ride ours with our daughters 17 and 26 yo. We also ride it with friends and with the kids of our friends. Ours is coupled but it fits diagonally in the back of our full size extended cab pickup.
We have no intention of selling the triplet as we really enjoy it and lend it to friends plus it also doubles as our travelling tandem.

Congrats on the TandeMetric over Donner Summit!
Another possible solution as the kids outgrow trail-a-bike: buy a second tandemn for mom to pilot . . .

Congrats. I've purchased several bikes from Mel, including a Bushnell triple. He's a great guy. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we have ours. We put our twins on it when they turned two. They are now five and have many rides under their belts.

Tandemseast, they are the best. Bought our first tandem in July. Mel was very helpful, took the time to show us the proper method, made sure my stoker Arlene was comfortable. I just took our new Burley in for a tune up last weekend, his mechanic is super! Can't say enough about those folks.
