some guys from work want me to join them next year for the ride to conquer cancer.
whos done it and is it gonna be too gnarly for a casual rider like me?

It's Toronto to Niagara. I'm thinking of it too, but it comes with a pretty steep registration fee/fundraising minimum, so I want to know how much of the money actually goes to the hospital, and how much to administration.

Try an MS Biketour! The MS Biketours have 2 events that are great for casual riders, Niagara in August and Toronto in September. Niagara is 40 or 75 km and Toronto is 30 or 55 km. They are both well supported, with frequent rest stops and lots of help if you need it. Info is at www.msbiketours.com This year's minimum pledge was $200, I've heard it's going up for next year.

I'm a cancer survivor -- the conquer cancer ride has much more appeal than the MS ones. But they advertise so heavily that I am worried about how much of the fund raising goes on admin stuff. Their web site says all the funds you raise is for the charity, but the entry fee is something like $2,500 apiece and I'm not sure if that counts as cash for the charity or not.

It's a good ride and there are all sorts of skill levels. You will find a group that matches your fitness level.

As others said, the min entry fee is steep. I had difficulty raising $500 for the Ride for Karen (Cancer support ride), not sure if I could raise $2500.00 but go for it. You have a year to prepare and fund raise

i went to an orientation and it looks like very little of the $2500 is used for administration/etc.

aprox 2800 cyclists last year raised 14million... lets do the math...

14000000 divided by 2800 equals

$5000 per rider. i know some guys raised like $250000 but you can probably count them on your fingers...

turd are you gonna do it in 09? im riding with 4 other co-workers of varying skill levels... should be fun.

wanted to know if there are any Londoners planning on the ride, not MS Tour, but the ride to conquer Cancer.

I did the ride to conquer cancer last year with my wife and two friends and had the BEST time!!! If your interested I suggest that you sign up soon, the popularity of this event is growing and they will close off registration soon.

We only started riding in February/March and the 200kms were not that bad, the first day was the toughest since you had to climb the escarpment but we did it and actually signed up on the end of day 1 for next year.

The $2500 is alot of money to raise and all of it goes to PMH but if you start now it will come really easy. If you need ideas let me know and I can help you out.

Included with your registration fee is a tshirt to wear while fund raising and you also get an awesome jersey to wear during the ride.

I signed up at the Bike Show last weekend. It's a little early in the season for back-to-back centuries, but it's something to train for.

I'm travelling this week. Will have to start spinning as soon as I get back.
