Framebuilders - How critical is the placement of canti bosses?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just how important iis the placement of canti bosses? Do the adjustability of the brakes alow for some lee-way? How far from the axel should they be placed for a 700c wheel? I'm just practicing Tig welding with some old steel junkyard frames.

They aren't that critical, at least with the brakes I have. I would get the brakes and a wheel and check it out.

the distance between the studs is just as important as distance from the axle. measured center to center.
Newer designs like the Paul don't have much vertical adjustment, so it pays to get the height right, and the centers. It is best to have the stuff you are building for before you build, though most people do it in reverse order.

And also make sure the posts are parallel to each other so that the rotational plane is even.
