Touring - Frame durability

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Am I paranoid? I have both a Trek 520 and a Nishiki Cresta. The Trek has better components and a lighter frame w/ the 531. I am worried about denting the frame on tour or while commuting. The Cresta is an '83 and is Tange Cr-Mo. The Trek is an 88. I am mostly concerned about commuting. What would you do??

Yes I think you are bing paranoid. I'd ride which ever one I liked to ride and take reasonable care of it. It is just a bike and meant to be used in either case. It is unlikely you will dent the frame, but even if that happens it isn't the end of the world.
