Foo - Dreams....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a dream of someday hiking the entire Appalachian Trail. Its 2160+ miles from one terminus to the other. It takes most successful thru-hikers 4-5 months to hike the entire trail. Only 10-20% of those who try actually succeed. Its a pretty daunting task once you start looking into what is actually involved. But all that just makes me want to do it even more.
So what are some of your dreams? Things you really want to try someday?

Putting mutations into Jsharr's bass clone replicator machine so they turn into quasi-sharks and bite his hand off as he's trying to hold it for the birthday picture.
I have a dream of someday hiking the entire Appalachian Trail.
That's one.
Space flight is another.
Here are a few...
1. Own my own business (sorta kinda working on that).
2. Ride to Grand Prix level dressage in horseback riding (working on that too...).
3. See the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.
4. Vacation in Bora Bora.
-run a marathon (I've done many half-ms)
-bum around Europe for a summer, and follow the three grand tours
-climb a (small) mountain
-learn to surf (after learning how to swim)
-start a business
-pay off my freaking credit card bill
A good friend of mine got through about 50% of the Appalachian trail...he did it alone tho - said that;'s what got him bummed enough to quit. I LOVE hiking with a good group of people...loads of fun and makes the miles fly by:) A solitary quiet hike is nice too, but not for that length of time/distance, imo...

Drive the Nurburgring Nordschleife in a decent car or on a super bike. (most likely will never happen)
Own the following toys, all in working condition, and have a nice place to keep them:
track-only car (preferably a peripheral ported 20b 2nd gen RX-7)
dirt bike
4-wheeler x2
4x4 vehicle of some sort (old Bronco or Wrangler would be nice)
a decent truck to tow it all
RV around the country, and perhaps Canada...I'm not big on the idea of traveling to foreign lands, without seeing my own country first.

I've walked a couple of miles of it for a day hike near Deleware Water Gap, I can understand why so few make the whole trip. But, I can also understand why they would try. I have also seen another portion of it as well.
My dream is to actually ride a century instead of dreaming about it. It has now been like two years since I have ridden a metric, and I need to really start rolling on it, and be more consistent on my riding.

1. Go on a lengthy bike tour. I don't see this happening any time soon, but maybe eventually.
2. My biggest dream: I want to make bicycles. Fillet brazed, lugged, that sort of thing. And I also want to make racks, stems, and a few other things I have ideas for. If I ever finish remodeling my house and move in, I'll have a place to actually try my hand at brazing. It's something I've wanted to do since I was about 15.

My dream is that ...her... won't affect me anymore.
A family friend of ours just finished hiking the AT. She got back just a few weeks ago I think, and it took her around 5 months. Pretty crazy.
My dream is that ...her... won't affect me anymore.
that's a doable dream...you'll know when you find the right her:love:

1. Make a difference in a child's life to where the lifeskills I share with him/her will be passed on.
2. Contribute to the learning of those who are dependent (mentally and physically challenged) become independent.
3. Start a community of foster homes for sick or injured animals to stay and be cared for until they are adoptable.

Cross Canada or the United States by bike, taking as much or as little time as I want to do it, and with the perfect companion who rides at my pace, wants to stop when I want to stop, knows when to talk and when to be silent and is happy to splurge on a really nice hotel every few hundred miles.
It's a bonus if companion knows a little more than I do about fixing the things that are bound to break on a bike on that long a ride.
I'd like to do a TransAm - will probably happen in a few years.

Climbing Ama Dablam.
And travelling into space. I want to see the sky change colors. Really, that's pretty much all I want to do it for.

That's one of mine as well. It may be old news but I just read that Robert Redford's bringing Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods to the screen. It's Bryson's hillarious account of attempting to do the AT.

Have read that book 2X. It is sitting on my nightstand and may get read again. That book, especially the first 1/2 just cracks me up.

thanks for the reminder...the wife keeps telling me to read Bryson....
Outer space - I'd never have the cojones, but that'd be one to end all, short of coming back from the dead....

Dude, you're talking, like resurrection, as opposed to, say, zombie apocalypse, right?
Attend graduate school and get my Masters degree.
Become a successful psychologist (but, how do you truly measure success? In money or in happiness?)
Run a marathon.
Ride in a velodrome at least once in my life.
Visti Italy.
Visit California.
Be happy.

either, I'm not picky
I keep having dreams of me bicycling to work in my underwear and when I walk into the building in my biking shorts I feel like my dreams come true.

Outer space and inner space, hence my user name.
'Dipper stands for Ursa Major. Serenity is self-explanatory.

Just for the record, zombie resurrection would be on my list of "evil dreams" and "things that would be doubleplusunfun".

That being said, i'm sure there's a bunch of us here willing to show you around. :D
I'd love to do an alleycat race in NYC one day though, maybe Rumble Through The Bronx someday...
