It's a high end, low weight, lithium battery powered electric assist kit. It's going on my cross bike to assist me in longer commutes (at higher spees), commutes with studded tires through slush, and commutes when I'm just run down tired and can use help. I should be able to swap the kit (rear wheel) out in 10 minutes to go back to a regular cross bike configuration.

Now I know what it is- and have to state that it is not something I would use-Buses are more comfortable- I can see the reason why you might need one- Providing the commute is long enough and the Snow is deep enough.

YESSSSS! What, I can't have a toy? Don't miss the point of the Bionx - it's a pedal assist - it adds power proportional to your effort pedaling.

Ah, but you have a working bus system. My fallback is my car. Metro around here gets spotty 10 miles outside of town and I'm over 20 miles out.

And here it is - complete with partially installed bottle generator and halogen light :) 46 lbs. I swapped out the compact crank for a normal road double Trutative crank and ISIS BB I had on hand. The rear is a nice Shimano 11-27T freewheel (not shown, oops)

Sure, but if your riding that thing I'm riding my "yellow" bike. Seriously, I would like to hear how it works out for you on your commute.
