Eh, when you grow up with it, the smell doesn't bother you much. :lol: It's good stuff for sure, having it aroud regularly is one of the "perks" of growing up in an indonesian family. :)

I'm wary of any fruit that has signs banning it in public places!

Still, can't be any worse than being stuck inches away from someone pigging out on greasy home fries and stinky cheap coffee in a stuffy subway car (retch!)

Can you get the durian anywhere in the US? it does sound interesting. any ethnic neighborhoods in chicago that might have some?

Check the freezers of your local asian market. They sometimes have them there.

I almost sought it out when in NY's Chinatown last week (didn't feel like riding home with a spiky bowling ball bouncing around tho)...I'm sure it can be found there or in Flushing, Queens.
