in ordering a Brooks B-17 saddle. in fact it arrived today just in time for my first metric of the season. i won't use it though until its been treated and will take it easy on my butt for the break in period. the Brooks was on a Dawes 10 speed i purchased in 1970 and i rode that thing everywhere, without the padding of cycling shorts, and don't ever remember being sore. now the key word here may be" remember", because being in the later half of my fifties i can definitly say that my memory has become selective. at any rate , its better looking than i remember and it comes with a great return policy of 6 months from Wallingford Bikkes. i hope to have it bonded to me by then. or it could cost me a lot of this seasons road time.

One of my other hobbies is long distance motorcycle riding. This pursuit involves riding long distances, sometimes crossing the country in relatively short time periods. All within the law of course! One of the recommendations of this group is that no changes be made to the bike just before a ride. This includes mechanical work. This is based on the fact that most problems that arise during a ride are related to the changes made or work done on the bike just prior to departure. It's good advise. So good that I apply it to my cars bicycle and boats. Based on this I'd leave the new seat at home for the first metric if you can't get it broken in before hand.
