Haha... so true. My phone rings, too...

Another thing that I don't understand is SMS messaging. The last time I was at the mall, it was just packed with hundreds of teenagers sitting around texting each other. It was so quiet that all you could hear was the HVAC system and the text alerts going off on everyones' phones.

Why not just sit around and actually TALK? Oh right, because it's hard to pronounce chatspeak.

hi wut r u doin 2nite omg lol plz dnt mk me laf

I use Judas Priest's intro to "Metal Meltdown" as my ringtone, but I've got the good sense to set my phone to silent mode when I'm at work or anywhere that a blast of speed metal isn't appropriate.

You wanna talk about annoying rings? There's someone from the office staff at my apartment complex who uses the sound of a crying baby as her ringtone.

The worst is when the stupid phone is going off, playing some loud obnoxious tune, and the person doesn't answer it, they act like they don't hear it. This happens a lot on the commuter train.

Ditto. But I just figured out how to convert MP3s to ringtones, so I'm gonna have to let it "ring" out loud now. Heck, I like the song so much I'll call myself every now and then just to hear it. :D

In the not-so-distant future, after the FAA has ok'ed cell phone use in flight...

Samuel L. Jackson: "Enough is enough! I have had it with these m***********g ringtones on this m***********g plane!"

modern airplanes are totally shielded from EMI emitted from cell phones and electronics.
the FAA just bans them out of precaution because the they don't have time to test every product that comes on the market to see if it's safe.

It's useful for quick messages when calls are not convenient, like work. Also good when cell tariffs are turned on.

However, my texts are always written in GOOD English.

Then again, I dated a Filipina for four years, so NOT texting wasn't an option.

There are a lot of older planes that are affected by PEDs, so until all planes are updated for shielding hopefully phones won't be allowed.

Cell phone providers also don't like phones in planes because they can be in contact with multiple basestations and clog up the system.
