Hi. I just wanted to introduce myself. I started a strong diet/exercise routine in February. I've gone from 318 lbs down to 265 currently. I'm 26 years old and 6' tall. I lost the weight by going to the gym everyday doing mostly cardio and about 90 min of weight training per week. Since May, life has been a little chaotic including moving twice and the most recent move was 2400 miles from Sacramento CA to Columbus OH that involved 6 weeks of hotel/driving/fast food etc. . . I'm finally settled in and back into a good routine. I started riding my old MTB on some of the trails around here and loved it. A week ago I bought a Trek 1.2 road bike and I can't get enough of it!

Currently I'm trying to do weights at the gym 3 mornings/week before work and riding 15 miles almost every afternoon after work at an average of 18mph. I occasionally take a 1.5 mile jog during my lunch hour. I'm tracking my calories and exercise at thedailyplate (through livestrong.com) and I'm averaging less than 600 net calories per day since I got the bike. That includes eating about 2000/day and burning 1400/day. I've lost about 8lbs in the last 2 weeks since I started tracking everything. I think my ideal weight would be around 220.

I flew here in July and lived out of a hotel for 3 weeks for training. Flew home for a week or so to pack and spent a week driving here with a U-Haul and car trailer and unpacking.

Welcome, gearhead! We have pretty similar profiles, as I started losing weight after I crushed the scales at 315+. I am now down to 240 after being stuck at 265 for WAY too long. Like you, I use a variety of training methods to get the job done, although cycling gets the lion's share of my attention. I am shooting for sub-200 myself. Keep us posted on your progress!

This is concerning. You need to net at least your BMR just to survive, so if you're truly only netting 600 calories then you're starving yourself, literally. You should/need to setup the calorie count based on a reasonable weight loss goal per week based on your activity level and your present weight, and still eat enough calories to cover your BMR after recording exercise. Yes, this means even eating back calories that have been burned so as to maintain balance. It's counterintuitive when you want to lose weight, but dropping it as fast as possible isn't healthy and reduces the likelihood of it being a longterm change.

Welcome to the forums, and the Clydesdale board in general!!:thumb:
I've also recently been looking at the Livestrong site, and have to say I like it a lot. Seems to have a lot of good info for those of us trying to lose some extra pounds. I've lost 11 lbs. since I took an interest in the site a little over a month ago. I figure I have 9 more lbs. to go, and that will subtract the weight of my bike under me. My goal is to get to 145 - 150 (maybe less), and currently I am 189 at 5' 7" tall. I was over 200 when I started a month and a half ago.

Again welcome!!

Welcome to the thundering herd gearhead. I dig the Trek, but I have a thing for black bikes, or white bikes, or red bikes, etc, etc.

I realize your coming from Sacramento, so you have some experience with sub 70 degree weather, but they have this thing in Ohio called winter. Good luck with that.

One other thing, do not, repeat do, not wear anything that is blue, gold (techically Maze), and has a letter M on it.

I'm actually from a small town in the foothills about 60 miles from Lake Tahoe so I'm used to getting a little snow, but I'm not used to anything below about 26 degrees! :)

I'm sure I will get bitten by the OSU bug eventually. As of right now game time is when I do all my grocery shopping because I have the whole city to myself!

Brandon, welcome to the herd! Yeah, you're going to notice a little climate difference, that's for sure. The cold up around Tahoe is also a lot dryer cold than you'll get. Nothing worse than a clammy, damp, midwestern cold, unless it's the -30 Clippers that drop in from Alberta. :p
