Hi there,

I just got me this Ascent Courier rear rack for my Volpe, it fits and everything but I'm confused as far as the front parallel BRACKETS that affix the rack to the studs on the seat stay frame, underneath the saddle.
Why do they remain loose? Is it supposed to make the rack swivel back and forth?
I'd rather like the rack rock steady, affixed to the frame via the studs.
The hardware provided has only screws and lock-nuts....
I don't know what's wrong?

There's two bolts and nylock nuts for each parallel arm. Make sure they are all tight. The rack should be solid.

The arms should also be bolted to the threaded eyelets on your seat-stays. Stainless steel Allen bolts, size M5 are the best type. The rack should come with all the bolts you need, if not, go back to the shop, and get the bolts.

That's the problem, the two bolts and locknuts don't tighten the brackets, may be the nuts shouldn't be the lock type, so it can go all the way to the bracket plate and adjust tight?

Those parallel brackets can be installed with the bend inward or outward so that the rack will fit wider and narrower eyelets... sounds like maybe you've got them set the wide way (as shown in the pic you attached) when they need to be set narrow for your bike? i.e - flip the brackets over, or swap them side to side... You should also be able to tighten the nylock nuts past the ends of the bolts, but it'll require a little pressure - maybe a small socket set...
