I'm planning a 2 1/2 day tour for October, and I'm leaning towards setting up for first half-day or biking like this: Leave from Red Bank NJ, take the Atlantic Highlands ferry to Wall Street, then stay overnight in Manhattan. I'd either take the George into NJ the next morning towards Harriman State Park, or head up north into CT.
Camping or a hotel are almost certainly out of the question. Has anyone stayed in any hostels in Manhattan?
Of course, getting back presents its own challenges - driving is not an option, and Amtrak is notoriously bike-unfriendly.
