I was wondering how long your handlebars are, and if there is a point where cutting down the bar too much can be come unsafe.

my bars are 40cm...of course, its on my fixie, so I need a super narrow bar to squeeze in between cabbies and buses...
my ss bars are ..shoot..i forget...whatever the Titan bars, thebiggest ones are, minus a few inches after I hacked 'em up a bit..

I'm tryingh to figure out a way to guage the required length. A friend of mine has a hybrid bike with really long bars, that need cutting down.
I think that if you grip a 50cm stick with both hands, using a neutral position, it should give about the right width.
Any other good methods?
For $50 he can get a titanium handlebar from Airborne. No muss, no fuss, and he gets a little more shock absorbtion.

I have a carbon fiber bar it is light too. Wouldnt want to cut it through. I have used it for several years no problems with it yet.
well, why don't you just put everything on in the position that you want it with some of the bars' length hanging out the end of the grips, then try it out, and if it seems right just hack it and cap it.
