Bicycle Mechanics - Tightening the brakes/shifters

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Stupid question for a cyclist who isn't tuned up to the latest equipment. How do you tighten the brakes/shifters to your handlebar? I peeled back the rubber shoes and there is no screw? Do you use an allen wrench or what? I have a Lemond Victoire - thanks a lot! :D

What do you have? Shimano road STI? On mine (8-speed Ultegra STI), there is a slot for an allen wrench on the outboard side of the lever. There should be a slight indentation in the lever housing. Peel back the rubber hood a little to insert the wrench.
5mm allen wrench is the universal tool for Shimano. As Gonzo says there
is a slot on the outside of the handle accessed by peeling back the plastic
hood. Slide the long end of the 5mm allen wrench down the groove and
at some point it will engage the nut, fiddle with angle til the socket locks
and loosen / tighten. Steve
