I purchased a road bike from a local salvage store last summer, because 1) it was too wet to ride my mountain bike and 2) you can train more intensively (as far as cardio and lungs) on the road. This place is known for buying older high-end rides : treks, cannondales, etc....
Anyways, I've rebuilt and painted the bike and have really fell in love with it. Before I stripped it, I tried to do some research, but with not much success. I know this much:
1) It was a Centurion Signet.
2) It was sold through Fred's Bicycle & Hobby Shop here in Winston-Salem, NC
3) It was painted blue fading to white with some really "cool" 80's looking graphics (blocks and squiggles)
4) It came with a Sugino crankset, Shimano derailleurs (stem-mounted shifters), and Araya chrome rims...
5) The frame is lugged steel. When i stripped the paint from the frame, I was amazed at the quality of the brazing.
I originally planned to ride this bike til I was sure I liked the road, and then maybe upgrade to a Trek, Schwinn or Specialized. However, the ride is great: rides that hurt my friends on aluminum rides are effortless to me.
I have purchased a new set of wheels and a new crankset is on the way. Some things are undoubtedly going to wear out. However, it seems everytime I have a doubt, I can clean/tighten/or relube a problem, and the bike feels new...
If any of you have ANY info, I'd love to hear it...
