I purchased a road bike from a local salvage store last summer, because 1) it was too wet to ride my mountain bike and 2) you can train more intensively (as far as cardio and lungs) on the road. This place is known for buying older high-end rides : treks, cannondales, etc....

Anyways, I've rebuilt and painted the bike and have really fell in love with it. Before I stripped it, I tried to do some research, but with not much success. I know this much:

1) It was a Centurion Signet.
2) It was sold through Fred's Bicycle & Hobby Shop here in Winston-Salem, NC
3) It was painted blue fading to white with some really "cool" 80's looking graphics (blocks and squiggles)
4) It came with a Sugino crankset, Shimano derailleurs (stem-mounted shifters), and Araya chrome rims...
5) The frame is lugged steel. When i stripped the paint from the frame, I was amazed at the quality of the brazing.

I originally planned to ride this bike til I was sure I liked the road, and then maybe upgrade to a Trek, Schwinn or Specialized. However, the ride is great: rides that hurt my friends on aluminum rides are effortless to me.

I have purchased a new set of wheels and a new crankset is on the way. Some things are undoubtedly going to wear out. However, it seems everytime I have a doubt, I can clean/tighten/or relube a problem, and the bike feels new...

If any of you have ANY info, I'd love to hear it...

I had a Centurion Ironman Master in '89/90 but it was ripped off. It was my first roadie. Lugged steel frame and 105 all around. I paid $600 for it brand new and put about 12k miles on it without ever doing a thing to it. I remember I was saving for better wheels but then I was forced into cycling exile - no bike, getting married, etc...

I miss that bike.

Don't know anything specific about the Signet - sorry.

Centurions are made in Japan, of course you knew that. Here in Sweden they are quite popular but on the other side of the sound in Denmark they are one of the most common bikes on the road. In Copenhagen they love to make very stylish custom commuters using Centurion frames and stripped down fixed or sometimes Nexus 7 internals. Anyway yours is a mid/lowmid, there are a few quite nice ones that came with all Chorus but most have Shimano... 600 105 or Ultegra

a friend of mine has a centurion accordo frame. it looks to be a good candidate for a fixie conversion. i was wondering if anyone has any specific information on this particular bike. id like to know because in order to get this frame from him, i will have to trade it for my schwinn sprint frame. which is the better frame of the two? the centurion has some rust but its minimal and im planninig on repainting it anyway. the schwinn is in decent shape with some scratches and stuff.
