Fifty Plus (50+) - baseball and biking

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Joe Maddon, manager of the Tampa Rays is an avid bike rider. A friend mentioned this to me and I went and researched it. While he was with the Angels ( and not making a lot of money) he would break down his bike before every road trip so he could get it on the plane. Upon arriving, he would re-assemble the bike in his hotel room and ride.
Now that he is a manager (and making a little more money) he rents a bike and rides when the team travels. He rides about 12 miles each day.
He says that riding helps him think. He came up with the teams slogan 9=8 while riding. That means if 9 players play 9 innings hard they will be amongst the 8 teams making the post season. Guess what?, they are in the playoffs for the first time in their existence!
A feel good story methinks. :thumb:

Heck, if he makes good money, he can buy a dozen bikes or so and leave them with the general manager at each site. Most likely he has a personal service corporation so he can have his corporation buy it as a write off.
Can you imagine having a dozen different bikes and being able to ride each one knowing they're different?

I wouldn't know about that, I have been on several business trips this year and it always ticks me off that i can't ride in some of the cities i would like to see by bike.
Dammit, I think I need a personal services agent too.

It's sweet:). Of course many of mine are used and storage can be a challenge, but
the toughest hurdle is getting the bride to allow a collection like that to amass out in
the garage.
Happy Trails
