Just got the cross bike built up.

Would I be better off practicing mounts/dismounts etc for a week or so to make sure I can at least do them without falling off/over?

Or should I suck it up and race this weekend?

I would race beginner class - so Im not sure how I would judge myself against the others as far as skills go...

I assume falling off at dismounts would prove frustrating, but I would guess the crowd would like me due to my ability to fall a lot...

Practice mounts / dismounts a bit and then go race. Best if you can get someone that can show you mounts / dismounts. Either way go race....

My .02: Just do the race. By the time you're half way through, the delirium from the pain will make proper technique a moot point anyway. Maybe try a few mounts and dismounts between now and then, but don't bruise up the inside of your leg (or anything else) -- you'll want to save that for the race.

Do a favor to those guys that will be approaching barriers behind you and practice dismounts/remounts first.

Falling flat on your face is cool, taking out half the guys behind you, not so much.
