I tried Hammer Nutrician products but found them no better than my regular GU20 and Cliff bars. I know people swear by Hammer but are they that good? I used them for long weekend rides and one or two weekday rides for several weeks. Was that a long enough trail?

all that matters is 'calories in' for fuel

and does it upset your stomach ? (if it does u go slower)

the rest is marketing. koolaid, coke, bag of sugar and water....kinda irrelevant

on longer ride 3 hours or more then electrolytes matter, so at this point, plain koolaid or coke
is not as good as gatorade or hammer or cytomax unless you are handed a musset

a few years ago I raced with some hammer amino acid and swore up and down the first 3 races, the first
20 minutes I was unstoppable and uncatchable. then that effect went completely away. so....some of it
is real, some mental, but in a real sense all that works is

stay FIT...train hard

stay hydrated

keep carbo intake <=60 gram per hour no matter what form it is, as long as your stomach likes it

don't run out of electrolytes
-----
someone is going to post with a Doctors thesis telling you 'this' and 'that' method is the best.

the funny part is.....popsicles are better

I hear a lot of people praising Hammer all the time, but in my tests, I usually feel better with other brands of products. Hammer's sales pitch of "you have to use Hammer products only because you need this exact blend of complex carbs" really turns me off, too.

a company pushing their own products is just a company trying to make a buck. they all do it.

as for Hammer being better for you, only you know. i highly doubt i ride faster or better because i suck down a Hammer gel verse a GU. although, i cant stand the taste of GU and most other gels.

i like and use many of their products, but dont really care for their bars. in my opinion they are not worth the cost when i can snag Cliff bars for a buck each. later.

It's all about what works for you. I've had zero luck with Hammer stuff -Perpetuem does not sit well with me at all. Though it does taste like rancid pancake batter.

Try it all and stay with what works. Clif shots have my energy spiking in a sine wave pattern, Accelerade makes me want to puke when I'm going hard and I can't stand the taste of Powerbar products. I have had good results with HEED and Perpetuem. Now Perpetuem doesn't taste very good but you can mix it highly concentrated and get many hours of fuel out of it in one bottle. I mixed up a couple of six hour bottles to carry me through an all day adventure race last weekend. My partners were using Gatorade and Clif Bars and we all finished. They can't stand the taste of Hammer stuff. My point is that we all used different products but got to the finish line at the same time so just go with what your body likes and ignore the marketing hype.

Who knows what products you think are "better" or what you think you "found" when trying various items?

Many sports nutrition products have similar formulas. Most of these products are offered in various ingredient combinations and formats to suit a variety of athletes and their tastes. It is extremely unlikely that any single manufacturer can prove their products superior for every athlete and situation.
