Just got in touch with Carmax today about having the car appraised this week. I'm headed over Tuesday to have them give me a $$ amount for the car. Depending on schedules, if I can hitch a ride back to my apartment I will be car free Tuesday!
:D

dont sell your car to car max! whatever they are willing to buy it off of you for is at least HALF what you could sell it yourself for. Its private party value vs trade in. Check out www.kbb.com for the real value of the car. If you REALLY dont like selling cars yourself then just sell it for 75% of its price of what kbb tells you and it will literally sell the say day you put it up on craiglist! Unless you drive a hummer ofcourse!

thanks for the heads up. I'll see what they offer and go from there.

Sell it on Craigslist! You can always get an idea of its value from Kelly bluebook, let the market tell you what it is worth, if your too high, you will not get any calls...

It's on Craigslist. I am going to head up to car max, just to see, tomorrow.

Good luck at carmax but like i said... They will buy it for half of its value or less so that they can turn and sell it at a profit. When you check kbb look at what the RETAIL value is and then realize that thats what carmax will be selling it for on their lot after they buy it off of you for the TRADE IN price (bird feed)! Infact, ill give you $200 more than carmax's best offer and laugh all the way to the bank after I sell it for twice the amount paid! Deal? I think not....

They apparently go off auction prices. So they don't even touch KBB.

Needless to say, I'm back on craigslist.

Carmax wanted to buy my 1997 ford ranger for $800, I said "No thank you," turned around and sold it for $3,000.
