Is this possible? My Campy Veloce has always been very noisy, no matter how I seem to adjust it, and I am wondering if perhaps part of the issue is my chain being to short? Culprit, part of the problem, not a problem?

I didn't say freewheeling. And yes, shifting is just fine. It's just noisy as hell. Clean, properly lubricated.

When you shift into the big to big combination the derailleur moves forward. Press the upper half of the derailleur farther forward. You should have at least 1/4" additional travel available before the upper half of the derailleur reaches its limit.
