Bicycle Mechanics - Loose Cassette - Shimano 10 speed

Hi,

I have Shimano 105 10 speed hub (FH-5600), with a "virtually new" Ultegra 10 speed cassette. I used the lock ring that came on on the freehub and I've done that up reasonably tight.

Should that hold the bits of the cassette fully tight? I can wiggle the cogs a little, which shows that the lock ring has bottomed onto something before it clamps the cogs. I'm just wondering whether I've got a spacer missing, or something else awry.

It shouldn't move at all, thin spacer first then the cogs make sure they are in correctly with spacers in between each.

Yes, you need the Shimano spacer at the back of the cassette that should have come with the cassette. It is important for all of the cogs to fit tightly on the freehub. Loose cogs can damage the freehub.
The recommended torque is shown on the lockring.

there is a very thing spacer that goes behind the cassette. Then the cassette then the lockring

yeah that little spacer is easy to overlook. sometimes i accidentally leave it behind when i change cassettes from one wheel to another.

Thanks a million. Second-hand cassette, and it sounds like that spacer is missing. I can't remember, so I'll check this weekend.
