Just when I was getting use to the snow and the melt and snow again, then melt, a new wrinkle appears on the horizon, NOAA calls it "breezy." Anyone know what is breezy about gusts up to 30mph? While the wind speeds will range from 17 to 23 mph? And that is just for today, there are two more this week. Fortunately I don't have to commute those days.
I've really been working at the attitude towards the wind, "Tryin' to get my mind right." But, as has been said before, there is a mental toll as well as a physical. When the commute takes me into a NW wind I cringe, and the S or N cross wind is just as nausious. You can tell where I am in the wind by the swearing I do under my breath. On my way into the fray it's "you're only making me stronger." In the middle it is "You're gonna have to blow harder than that to get me off this contraption." The last few miles, "Blow as hard as you want, I'm three miles from home, and it doesn't matter, I'm going to make it."

Welcome to the club. Below is a link to what I've been dealing with. It never gets easier. My commute home on Friday afternoon was murder. 40MPH+ head/cross winds. I really relish in the knowing that I have overcome mother nature's fury after such a ride. Think of it like when you complete a snowy ride in near or sub-zero temps. Its really a mental game. In your case, I would also put the single speed away for the days with stronger winds in favor of a multi-gear'd bike. :)
