I have a late '70's to early '80's peugeot 18 spd. serial # a5a03773 18 spd. All of the equipment is shimano, except for the crank Takagi tourney ,araya wheels and suzue hubs. I'm wondering if this is good stuff and worth keeping and having a major tune up at $60 an hour labor. It is in good shape but needs tires, seat and about $90 tuneup. Bottom line about $150 to 200 to get it back iin shape. Am I throwing good money away on a out dated mtn. bike?

Your Peugeot is probably a rebranded Giant of Taiwan. It is a decent transportation or recreation steed, definitely a cut above a $150 special from *-Mart. If you could do at least some of the work yourself, it would definitely be worth fixing and keeping, assuming that it fits you and that you otherwise like it. I also suspect it is somewhat newer than you indicate, i.e., mid-1980s.
