Hello All,

I have a possibly unique rack/fender mount situation as the title states. I'm considering purchasing a cruiser bike and using it as a utility/city bike. A rear rack and fenders can be mounted no problem, it's the front that is. I really don't need both a front and rear rack, but the fork crown isn't drilled to take a brake and won't take a rack or fender mounted there like most racks/fenders need. It does have eyelets on the fork, but this doesn't solve mounting fenders. To me the logical idea would be to use a front rack that has a fender mount under the rack. Seems simple enough. Well, I cannot find one that has the fender mount underneath it that allows it to be mounted to the fork legs or canti posts. The wheels are 26" and it also has canti posts with a canti brake installed. Any suggestions. I did notice that the surly nice front rack will work, but I have no idea if it has a fender mount under it. Does anyone know? Old Man Racks might be a solution, but I'm not sure I want a rack mounted to the fork axle. It also doesn't have quick release so I'm not sure that would work anyway. Thanks for reading and for any help.

What about just drilling that hole in the fork that would make the whole thing easyer? Also at least for MTB`s you can buy front fenders that does not need that hole. There is an expanding plastic thing that is inserted into the tube (need to remowe the wheel to do it) and then secured there a bit like you do with a stem. Then attach the fender to it.

By drilling the hole in the fork crown you solve both problems.

Also, the threaded eyelet is inside the fork crown. If you pull the wheel out and look up into the bottom of the fork crown you might find something. It's sorta rare, but so is not having any fender mounts on a fork crown on a beach cruiser.

Thanks for the suggestions. Still haven't found something that works. Good ideas though.

A large metal conduit or pipe hanger such as HERE (http://www.acehardware.com/sm-gam-conduit-hanger-50-pack-gam-conduit-hanger-50-pack--pi-1308577.html). These come in various sizes. You may have to call around town if your local hardware store does not stock the larger, more industrial size you need.

A hose clamp might offer some possibilities.

With either of the above, use a strip of old innertube for padding between the clamp and the bike.
