Hasn't happened to me since my handling skills are so advanced. :p
It is windy I have to agree with you on that...can't wait for it to settle down a little.

I remember Ligget talking about Cippo and how there were 40 mph cross winds so the riders were leaning their bikes realy steeply to compensate. They rode into town and as the passed the first building....the wind stopped and down went Cippo! I would have like to have seen that.

I raced today with 40 mph gusts. There were several (4) riders from the front pack that were blown into the ditch. Rather challenging draft when everyone is leaning sideways.

Today I had the displeasure of riding into a constant 20mph headwind pulling the baby cart. After a mere 15 miles into the wind I promptly turned around and returned to the car. The trailer also does strange things to your bike when crosswinds hit. You end up steering to the side to go straight.

The tailwind was nice on the return but I was blown up from fighting. My average going out was about 15.8 and on the return it came up too 17.1

Not yet, but really close! My bicycle commute home on Friday had gusty winds in excess of 40MPH. Small chain ring and lowest gear for most of the 6.6 miles.

It threw 130km/h at me on Friday night and failed. If it wants to try again, I'll be happy to accommodate it.

Yes, right into the side of a large truck....the truck won!

Why just today I was taking a wicked sweet descent (50+ MPH) and when I came around a corner, my tailwind suddenly became a crosswind that pushed me across an entire lane before I could correct for it. Didn't help much that I was in a super-aero tuck so didn't have the best handling at that point. I've had worse wind situations, but that was by far the scariest because of the speed.

So imagine this, here we are up at a light and slowing down to stop when BAAM! I fall right over. I heard laughing from behind as my girlfriend, obviously embarrassed by her boyfriends stupid mistake, looks away trying to act like she doesn't know me. I can hear the people in the cars next to me chuckling too. Oh wait? You said with wind? Nope, never had that happen. But from time to time I do like to just fall over like a drunken dog to keep things interesting

I find the bigest problem in strong cross winds is when lorries overtake you, provide a wind shield for a moment and force you right over to the edge. As soon as they pass you, you have a side wind and a slipstream to deal with, which is quite a challenge with stong side winds.

I've ridden in 62 mph wind before and the worst part was that the wind direction wasnt a constant---so i'd lean my bike into the wind and then the wind would die and come at me from the other side blowing me and my bike about 4 feet from left to right. Didnt blow me off my bike though.

yesterday's ride, 20 mph constant wind, gusts to 40mph
made for a real challange especially since the 2nd half
of the ride was into the wind and uphill. A few gusts had
a few of us crossing lanes unexpectedly but no, it hasn't
blown me off the bike but it sure as hell tries.

I was accompanying a friend of mine on her way to work because she had never ridden to work before and the hit this blast of wind coming down Huntington Ave I believe right before the Christian Science Center in Boston and the wind hit so bad, she actually started going backwards slightly because she was coasting at the moment (I was on a fixie and just slowed down in the wind). It was wierd to watch as I shadowed her.

The buildings at the Christian Science Center make an odd wind tunnel, especially with the cooling pond in the center of the complex. The worst winds I've ever ridden in were during a multi-day fundraiser that I do every September. A few years ago, we were riding the day after a hurricane hit here, and the winds along the Cape Cod Canal and the south facing shore in Falmouth were unbelieveable! Walking over the Sagamore bridge, the wind was pushing you right against the suicide fences.

Yesterday, there were 30 mph gusts. I was fine while riding, but when I stopped to eat a snack, it almost blew me over.

I find the crosswinds catching the vents in my helmet and twisting my head around more aggravating then anything.

You're out of your mind! Ya, ain't it cool!

I do enjoy that movie--John Travolta is very entertaining in it. And the music with the base guitar is great!

Oh, for the rest of you that didn't ID the quote--the movie is "Broken Arrow".

Right here and right now the Santa Ana winds are blowing like crazy, gusting to 40+ mph.

I had put my new saddle on my bike, had suited up and was just about to slather on my sunscreen to go out when the winds came up. We had a mini "twister" dust-devil in our back yard that was pretty fierce; it overturned a large dog-crate and sent the chickens running. The cats were running around in the house, all bug-eyed and puffy-tailed from the noise.

A good stiff-but-steady wind is one thing, but the gusts scare me. The winds will probably lay off later today. I hope I'll get out then, for at least a little while--before my husband wants to be picked up, who (if I don't pick him up), if the winds are still strong, will be forced to ride 25 miles home, up-hill into the 40 mph gusts. Maybe I'll have mercy on him.

If he begs. . . :D

I was blown sideways in a sandy parking lot once. On the beach at Assateague (sp) Island.

Not quite, but the one day in three years of commuting that I cried "Uncle!" and accepted a ride home was due to the wind. I went out determined to ride despite a sudden storm with strong winds. Within 1/2 block I had almost been blown over twice. Tail between legs I hiked back to the office and took a co-worker up on his earlier offer of a ride. Naturally 10 minutes into the commute the wind had eased a bit, but I couldn't very well ask him to turn around and take me back to the office to get my bike.

wind ever blown you off your bike?

If the wind is blowing THAT hard I will just stay home.

Was on A European bike tour..France,Spain..
The is one huge hill(more like a mountain) on the French/Spanish border overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Just north of the area know as Costa Brava..Leaving that morning the wind in the lower elevations was normal...Wind must have been updrafted, for it was like a hellish windtunner.
Stopped at border to take pictures of a awesome view. Trying to mount the bike going north and down a huge hill, really more like a small mountain, the winds were brutal. Most afraid I have ever been on a bike...
The road's edge was like a 500 ft. drop off....Getting on the bike felt wabbly until I got the speed up..
I suffer somewhat from a fear of heights. The bike felt so wabbly I did not click in the right foot. Once got a little downhill action, the bike felt somewhat better and wind died down some, as I rode away from the crest...
But starting the downhill, I actually had to crank like hell to get the bike to go downhill, the updrafts were so bad.Wonder I did not spend the afternoon up there.
Never saw a weather report..Think the winds could have been in the 30-40 mph range.
