Touring - Fall Colors

I never knew the fall colors could be so spectacular!! We just arrived into West Yellowstone and have been riding through the most magical landscape ever for the past few days!! The aspens are that incredible golden-reddish color and look like they are simply lit up from within. Gosh - I can't imagine Yellowstone will be any more spectacular than t his!!

I'll try to post some pics, but we don't have them off the camera yet. Maybe tomorrow. I can't wait to see them - hope the camera captured all that vibrancy!!

That is not my journal link. An English couple are crossing the US right now on their tandem.
I am enjoying following their route online as it crosses many routes that I have ridden on previous tours.

I totally failed to bring my camera on the Peak to Peak Highway today - it was spectacular. There was a traffic jam from all the people in cars out looking at the aspens.

SRS and I rode Boulder-Golden-Golden Gate Canyon - Peak to Peak -Ward - Hwy 36 and back to our respective homes. I'm so lucky to live here!

Thanks for that link on crazyguy!! We met them in Missoula - they travel just a "tad bit" faster than we do!!

I've never been to Yellowstone in the fall, but I don't imagine that the colors are all that great in the park. I don't recall that many deciduous trees and much of the time there weren't all that many live trees of any sort. Once past it and into the Tetons (if you are going that way) I bet it will be breathtaking if your timing is good.

You are right - there weren't many deciduous trees in Yellowstone at all. But - the colors in the pools were more spectacular than I had ever imagined!!

Yeah. We thought the geothermal features like Grand Prismatic were absolutely amazing.

Ooohhhh - nice pic!! I guess you took that one on that bike path that went up above? We wanted to take that soooo badly, but we didn't have time since most of the campgrounds were closed and we had to make it to the next one. As it turned out, some rangers offered us their backyard to camp in, so we could have ridden up there after all - but we didn't know it at the time.

Nice pic. We didn't go to the walkway or that side of Grand Prismatic. How strong was the sulfur smell? I bet it was pretty strong in the misty areas.

Yes sort of. We rode the trail, but we had to hike up the hill for the view. It was a great place to stop for lunch as well. There was also a nice falls (Fairy Falls or was it Mystic Falls maybe?) that was a fairly short (a mile or two) hike from the trail.

In places, the trail surface was not very pleasant for riding unless you have wide tires though. With 700x32's it was passable but less than ideal. It was fairly deep stuff that was kind of like sand to ride in.
