Southern California - Some People Just Don't Want to be Helped

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Stopped at the Honda Center rest area today, as usual on our SART rides. A big group of riders rolling by, most seem to be newbs. One lady rolls up then places her roadie in the bike rack front wheel first. She's trying to balance it while the bike sways left then right unsupported by the front wheel. Then a few second later her hubby rolls up. I'm thinking he'll set her straight by placing the rear wheel in the rack. But nope, he goes also goes with the front wheel. So I'm watching the guy fight with the bikes.

So all my homeless friends are watching the guy wrestle with the bikes, so I call to him in a friendly voice, "they are more stable if you insert the backwheel". But he looks up at me and says, "no, they are just fine like this!". So he goes on wrestling with them. Finally he swings his bike to the side blocking the remaining slots and partially being held up by his wife's bike.

OK, so now he's taken 3 slots to support his bike, which is still unstable and my homeless friends are still laughing at the guy! Hey, I tried to help him!:p

I often read on forums that the more experienced riders should try to help the newbies. But sometimes, I guess they just don't want to be helped!:D

It's amazing what too much pride and ego can do to diminish intelligence. :)

the bike racks at triangle square are full of beach cruisers with just the front wheel locked up. the best was the basket that was locked to the rack. i'm sure it had a bike connected to it at some point...

Yeah, I know what you mean! It's like my friend Beanz, I've been trying to help him ride his first double century for five years now. But does he sign up? No. He just keeps making excuses about why he can't even give it a try.

He knows how to park a bike in a parking stand, so I think a double century is a logical next step!

Hey Man, I'm still getting out there, just not sure when. But I am doing it eventually!:thumb:

Besides, my friend Bigkahuna says I shouldn't attempt the doubles till after I master the bikerack!:p

Okay Beanz,
I think you've got the bike parking mastered, so 2009 will be your first Triple Crown Year :thumb:

What ever happened to Bigkahuna, anyway? Did he quit riding, or just pick another forum?

Been telling Gina I need to get serious and lose this extra 30lbs I've been lugging! This could be the year but you won't know till you see me at the start line!:p

I think he stopped riding, kid stuff. I think his kid was getting really involved into baseball. Prolly no time to do doubles! He did stop by here once or twice ,but that was it. I believe he also got a promotion at work with a more demanding schedule.
