It's been a while since I've done any food logging. but due to my recent injury I find myself looking at weeks ok relative inactivity and I no longer have the feel for eating normally (I've typically been eating ~4000cal/day). I don't care about weight loss, just want to maintain. Of course I'll probably lose some muscle so I imagine it will go down a little... Anyway, what is the food logging site in vogue these days?

Most impotrant to me is a good food library and easy addition/modification of foods. Also, if any have an iphone all or a good iphone fotmatted entry page, that would be a ideal. I'm currently trying mynetdiary because it has an iphone entry app but I don't like that it only has breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack fields. In the past I've used training peaks nutrition tracker, which did everything I liked but the interface was cluncky...

Fitday is still the most easily used for free ones. Most people only ever eat the same 50-100 foods repeatedly, so once you have it set up its easy to maintain. Make sure you add in 8 hours sleep as an activity, set lifestyle as sedentary, overestimate your food, underestimate your caloric burn, and then its fairly accurate :)

Ive tried several other ones, but they all seem to over complicate it compared to fitday. I dont have an iphone so I cant help you there.

The iphone entry is important, I've found if I don'e enter it when I eat it, I'm not likely to remember to do it later. In the past I wrote everything down on paper first but I'm not willing to be anal enough now to do that again.

I will second Jarery's advice, Fit day is excellent and it is free. The fact that it is online means all you need is a computer and internet.

Looks like the interface has improved since I tried it 2 years ago. I'll give it a try, just wondered if there were any new sites that people were happy with.

Now I remember, unless I am missing something, there is no way to quantify a serving of a custom food. Very disappointing...

I use the daily plate at livestrong.com
You can access it at thedailyplate.com as well. They have a mobile version. http://www.thedailyplate.com/mobile/

Seems to me I was able to do that when I was using FitDay a couple months ago ... but I'll double check.

I have trouble using a log like that for any extended period of time (it's fairly time consuming to enter everything), but I found it very helpful to log my food for a few weeks to kick-start my weight loss plan. And now that I've plateaued for a couple weeks, it might be helpful for me to start again.

I only need it for a few weeks until my clavicle heals and I can ride again. You can enter fractional servings and their predefined foods have other metrics such as weight attached... But I need to be able to say a serving is 56g and I had 18g, otherwise it is worthless to me. Anyway, there does not appear to be any meal separation in the log, societently mynetdiaryis winning.

Oh, free is not a necessary consideration. I will happily pay for something that is better...

I have the paid version of Fitday and it allows you to build custom foods with multiple ingredients in either servings or a weight or volume measure. I think it was around $30. You could probably try a demo version although I doubt it will run on an iPhone.

i used the free Fitday for a year plus. i was in a serious routine and had around 150 custom items entered. it was second nature to me. i am a bit confused by your issue with the custom items. maybe i was using my own work around?? for example i have Hammer Recoverite (2 scoops) as an item. then the nutritional info i entered is per the label for one serving. if i were to have 1 scoop i just enter quantity as 50% of one serving. seems like an effort, but wasnt for me once i got going. later.

It's easy when something is clearly half, but it's harder when it is som arbitrary portion. Anyway, I entered everything in 3 sites today and mynetdiary won. I'll be contiuing to use that.

+1. this is the one I use. Easy enough that I keep using it, so I guess that says something.

It does allow custom foods, it just doesn't allow you to assign a weight to it.

After switching to FitDay for a week on advice from my coach, I think I'm gonna go back to TheDailyPlate. It seems a lot easier to use.

I'm using My Fitness Pal which is similar to Fitday and it works really well for me. It's free and you can enter food into the database that may not already be there. Although I like the idea of the Fitday software, I travel for work a few times a year and use a different computer when I travel, so logging into a website works better for me.

Since this thread is active again, I've been continuing to use MyNetDiary.com. It does nearly everything I want except allowing an arbitrary number of "meals" (it only has breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack). The iPhone entry is great and their support has been very responsive, fixing a few bugs that I've found. The hardest part isjust not eating like I'm riding 200 miles a week

+1 to thedailyplate ... I can't believe the database of foods that site has... even my crap generic cereal is on there... thanks to this thread for helping me find it.. very easy, so easy I might even stick with it.

I hit my weight goal finally. It only took 3.5 years. Using the daily plate I cut my remaining 17 lbs in the last 3 months.
However, now I have an injury that is making it difficult for me to bring up my calorie intake. I fully expect to drop below my weight goal. I am not sure if this is something I am happy about. Guess I will see.

So...another vote for the daily plate. That is another one on top of my previous vote. :p

I weighed 210 lbs 3.5 years. Now 150 lbs. I am 5'9" in height.
