I am doing Vancouver to Ti Juana in three weeks and I have not been able to find a handlebar bag that works with my Nashbar Trekking bars. I am mostly interested in having the laminated map pocket right in front of me but the extra storage would be really nice as well. I do have a top tube or "bento box" that can hold the essentials. I tried buying just a laminated map pocket but I have a head light and bike computer on the handle bar where the laminated map thingy should attach. I could put the computer on the stem but I have no idea where to put my light that would work. I am using a Jannd Expedition front rack that mostly covers up all of my fork so attaching the light there wont work i dont think. Anyone got any ideas?

I have the nasbar "trekking bars" and a small (not the compact) bar bag and it works well for me. The Performance bar bag is a little to "tight" for my bars.

Ortieb has this extender for their handlebar bags.

Letdicefly: where can I get an extender like that? Do you have a link? The home page for Ortieb does not seem to have it for sale....
Booger1: Where did you get that bag? All the bags that I have seen in stores are hard edged, they wont flex like yours to actually go into the middle of the bars like that...
I got this at REI

You can buy the extender here (http://www.thetouringstore.com/ORTLIEB/Ort%20Accessories/ORT%20ACCESSORIES%20PAGE.htm) - just scroll down the page a bit to find it.

It's 30 years old, made by a company called Rhode Gear. You won't be finding one of those but I'm sure there's something like it out there. It's a fairly big bag by todays standards, main pocket w/internal zipped pocket, big front pocket,2 side nets and full size top pocket.I like the weight up front, but I think most people don't.The internal frame is below the bars, what you see flexing is the top pocket. The size of your bike frame will determine how big of a bag you can put below the bars and not rub the tire. The top pocket is not zipped in that picture,it sits completely below the brake levers when zipped.Remember, the farther forward you put the bag,the funkier the steering gets.
