Week One: Clydesdale / Athena Biggest Loser Challenge
Monday 9/29/08- 10/5/08
OK by popular demand..ok a few of us thought this would be neat. We are starting a Clydesdale Athenas Biggest loser. Based on the following thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=469887
How does it work:
(1) Post your starting weight this Monday
(2) Don't weigh yourself (if possible) until next Monday
(3) Next Monday post Starting weight of previous week, New Weight and pounds lost and % of Weight lost.
(4) On Mondays when you post - post your own personal challenge. For example: Drink 8 glasses of water per day , Ride in Metric Century..and be kind to small animals
(5) During the week let us know how it is going. Let's be sure and post our riding goals as well -as this is a biking forum!
OK now for the team s- we are singles...
MissBumble aka Sue will be the Pink team - I have a beautiful white and pink bike
Turbocrusier - Green Team - I think his bike is Green
Raven - Black Team
OK who else is joining us?
I will post my starting weight tomorrow!
The weight loss may be slow for some of us - I have been at this a while and am looking for a 1-2 pound loss per week...so this is a marathon not a sprint!

Lol, if I were going off my bike's colors it would be um....the polished aluminum/black w/sparkles team???? Nah, I'm takin the green team cuz I like the color, that's all :)
I really changed my diet up, have everything laid out for the entire week. I'm shooting for a goal of 4-5lbs which is really quite insane...but to go from fast food 4-5 nights a week to good healthy food will make a HUGE difference. My biggest concern (don't flame me!) is I'm trying to quit smoking at the moment too and I know people tend to gain weight when quitting so that's extra stress on me. So I guess this week's goals will be:
1) Abolish smoking completely
2) Drop 4lbs with my new diet
3) Since it is BF, ride 100 miles this week (starting out easy)
I'll post my weight in the morning/early afternoon...game on!

Hi everyone,
I just read this post and I really want to participate.
I am starting cycling again after year of not doing anyting at all.
I started today commuting to work, in total 32 km per day.
My weight today is 176lbs. Quite a lot as I am only 1.60 tall (female). My average weight has to be 121lbs so... I !need to loose quite a lot!!!
I want to join this group as I think it will give me motivation an keep me going! I am planning to commute 5 days a week during the whole year, even that we don't have here in London a great weaather and the cold is coming!! I think it will give me a nice work-out.
I know it will be really hard, at least, the first month but I am really fed up with my weight and want to achieve the weight loss by the end of December. I don't know if this is achievable but I will try hard.
Do I create a new group or do I join one? If I can join one, I choose the green team as I like the colour.
29/09/2008: 176 lbs.

Updates to the biggest loser challenge can be found by clicking this link. It was getting a little complicated to break things down through regular posts, so my wonderful wife was nice enough to create a spreadsheet through excel and post it up for us. You can still send me your info and I'll have my wife upadate it as soon as possible. Just makes things a heck of a lot neater now, hope you guys enjoy!

Brandon aka gearhead is added to the list! If there's a quarter million dollar prize, he has been generous enough to put forth the money...thanks gearhead! Just playin with ya bud...I think the biggest prize at the end of the contest will be self gratification of losing weight. Hope you guys can keep up, I've already got 12 miles on the bike today and I'm not done yet :D

Turbocruiser13
09-29-08, 09:27 AM
There she is! Don't worry, I'll have things under control for ya while you're on your commute. Good luck with the charity ride...I just did my first MS150 last weekend (no, NOT yesterday lol) and I had to hit the sag wagon a couple times...I guess I can't complain considering I'd never ridden more than 30 something miles before that. So to go from 30ish miles to 150 = wtf was I thinking!?!?
Mmmmm....suuuuubbbbwaaayyyy. Why'd ya have to remind me that I'm hungry!

Ok I have everybody up to date on my original post...for those that chose themed teams I'd like to stick with colors if possible. I think we still have colors like indigo, sky blue, and turquoise left over (just trying to choose simple colors from the drop down menu lol) so if you guys/gals want to separate those colors they're all yours...first come first served!
I also thing this list is getting very crowded! We may have to put a cap on this thing or it's gonna be crazy tryin to get to everybody!

Okay, I'll join in. I'd pick Indigo, but since that's my name it's a bit too on the nose, hah. I'll be team "Dark Orange" (from the dropdown for convenience). I was ~283lbs last night. I'll post a more official weight later on when I do today's Wii Fit.
Okay, "official" weight is 283.1 lbs.

Hello all,
I've been lurking here for several weeks but this biggest loser game has drawn me out of the shadows :thumb: No long intro here...I'm an over 50 Athena and started riding regularly about 4-6 weeks ago. My DD left a 10 yr old Spec Crossroads in the garage when she headed out for school. It's a bit big for me but ridable. I dusted it off, put some air in the tires, and am doing up to 30 mile on it. Last June I hit 184 lbs. (at 5'5") and was embarrassed by my appearance in photos from our trip to Ohio to visit family (I'm in Tucson). From the end of June/beginning of July I've been doing Jari Love's Ripped videos, walking, eliptical/stat bike at the community center, and now riding. From Sat to today I've ridden about 50 miles but won't get much done during the week.
On to the stats:
Wt. on 9/29 - 169
Goals:
1) to continue losing about 1 lb a week.
2) ride the 35 mile distance in the Tour de Tucson in November (longest practice run is 31 mi)
3) move on to a better bike.
Team Color? Hmm.... If Silver isn't taken, it's mine.
Wanda
ETA: Looks like both Silver and Gold are spoken for so I'll settle for Bronze!

Sorry for the delay! We were out of town all day and I just NOW got back home and on the computer.
I did weigh in this morning and I weighed 317.4 lbs. When I actually decided to do something about my weight nearly a month ago, I weighed 333+.
But my official starting weight is logged at 317.4.
My challenge this week is a simple one - drink at least 64 ounces of water per day.
I'll add a challenge or two more on given days but for now, this is the main one.

Hey guys.
This morning's weight: 217
Weekly goal: Under 215
Forever Goal: Under 190
215-217 is the lowest I've been since the summer of Junior year in High School, and it's been pretty hard to break. I haven't been under 200 since Jr. High, and that number has been, ahem, a weight on my shoulders since.

...Hey, Ms. Bee...Is it Keith Irace from iTrain on your ipod? I dl'd a stat bike w/o of his and really like it. If you like audio w/o's you want to try Sean OMalley's Cardio Coach w/o's. Not equipment specific like iTrain but he does more 'coaching' for both body and spirit. Here's a link: http://cardiocoach.com (http://cardiocoach.com/).
I like Cardio Coach (CC) for treadmills/eliptical (don't like treadmills much, though) and iTrain best for the stat bike. ENjoy your trip!

Wii Fit comes with a tiny little scale looking board that is used to measure various bodily stats. It keeps a cool little graph of your weight among other things over time. The "game" also has built exercises that it schedules for you that work on balance, cardio, and some strength training. The exercises are good but the progress tracking is so awesome.
Oh and if you are completely clueless...you need a Nintendo Wii system, and also the Wii Fit "game/system" to participate.

The Wii fit is not very good for serious exercise, but if you need something around the house that makes it insanely easy to exercise no matter what, it's great. The flexibility and strength games have their moments once you unlock the "challenges" for strength. If you ride a bicycle, the aerobic games will drive you insane with their 3-5 minutes of low intensity cardio followed by a bunch of button pushing.

It works by showing up here - posting your weight and all of us supporting each other. No big grand prizes - but accountability.... We are here to support each other. Also I figure you are in the group - but if you gain weight 3 weeks in a row I say you are out. That way we know if we slip up we cna get right back on track. Lots of us tend to gain weight after a big ride (water, etc...) so that way this allows for it.
Anyway - Turbo and I started this - so we are quite flexible with the rules... well I am ...Turbo may yell at me when he sees the extra people I have added :)
OK - go to it! Report in! And ride RemarklblyOrdnry Ride!
