Fifty Plus (50+) - Shopping - old blokes' experience?

So, last Thursday night, I was setting out my kit for the Friday (our weekend here) ride. Slightly fussy, I know, but it's an early morning start before the heat builds up, so I like to have things ready.

Shoes and socks, gloves, helmet, sun glasses, gloves - all ok. Jersey and shorts - where? Increasingly old bloke behaviour - drawers rummaged, wardrobes sifted, R rated vocabulary exercised. Drawers emptied on the floor. X rated vocabulary enacted.

No kit found. Nipped out to the bike shop ( open late during Ramadan). Bought the yellow Nike jersey and Assos shorts I had before, wondering if I'd left my old ones in UK on my trip there last week.

A good ride. Showered and washed out the new jersey and shorts, and hung them out on the line - just next to the original yellow Nike jersey and Assos shorts, a bit dusty after their two weeks on the line.

well better than forgetting your kit at home and arriving at work with nothing to change into or some essential parts missing. those senior moments are a drag.

No worries to have more cycling clothing, esp. of that high quality! You'll use them, eventually use them up. It's all good, and absolutely nothing wrong/bad about what you did. Brilliant, really!

I have to remember that one in case my wife questions why I would need any to buy any new cycling clothing!

I used to wonder why my dad had so many duplicates of various things around the house. Now my kids are wondering the same about me! Thanks for laugh.

The only mistake I can see is in buying duplicates of the missing items. I would go for something different, assuming I would eventually find the others.

How about driving 500+ miles to a long weekend bicycling event only to discover that you'd left the shoes that match your clipless pedals at home?

You know, we might be able to use that tactic to execute that next N+1 Maneuver. It goes, "Well lookee here Honey, my old bike was right there behind the outhouse* all along. Don't that jes' take the cake?". (CRINGE.)

* - This is West Virginia and yes there's an outhouse on my property. It's the most reliable thing in the state because it works on the Gravity Principle.

Drove 40 miles with Mrs. Road Fan and 2 bikes for a group ride, but forgot to bring cash to pay the registration and they did not take plastic --- grrr!

For a moment there I thought you were going to say you drove to the bike shop to purchase the jersey and shorts and the guy at the counter says, "Hey...just like the kit you have on!" :roflmao2:

Welcome to senility city. I'm often looking for my glasses and I'll find them on top of my head.

When I drove nearly 200 miles to Lanesboro, MN for 4 days of riding last week, I found that I had left my helmet at home. After about 5 minutes of whining and cursing, I remembered that I had had an old Trek helmet wedged into a wheel well & I might not have taken it out. Moved a couple of things and there it was. Not as comfy as my regular helmet but it worked out. Else I would have been at the bike shop buying another one.

This was a case of my senior moments canceling each other out. I forgot my helmet at home, but it was canceled by my forgetting to take my other helmet out of the car.
