Touring - Single Panniers

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Due to Westjet loosing one of my Panniers, I have only a single Axiom Champlain pannier left. I Did like my pannier set, but It's nearly useless to have just one (They're quite large, and with one, the bicycle is unbalanced)
I've talked to a few bike shops, and they say they're either unwilling or unable to order a single left (non drive side) pannier.
I've contacted Axiom, and they still have not replied to my e-mails.
Can anyone help me determine what to do next?

Keep emailing the company. How long has it been? Ebay maybe? Is Westjet covering the cost?

Have Westjet pay for a whole new set.

Westjet is a budget airline, and normally only covers $250 of lost luggage.
I lost:
-MSR Hubba hubba tent ($250) with extra pegs and a footprint
-Running shoes
-Sleeping pad
-All my bike tools
-folding tire
-pannier
-my book of paintings.
I went through a month of letter writing, e-mails and phone calls.
West Jet innitially filed my report as being a "missing grey packpack" It took several calls to explain that it wasn't a backpack, and it was black, not grey. I explained that I had been saving for my trip for a long time, that I was a college student, and that I worked as an early childhood educator (very underpaid work)
Finally, They doubled my coverage to $500, which let me buy back most of my tools, sleeping pad and tent (I'm a scout leader, and I use my tent fairly often) They also included A $500 travel voucher.
The downside of all this is that I still have about $200 of lost gear to buy back, as well as paintings I made which are unrecoverable, and I righthand pannier from a set.

I have occasionally seen single Axiom panniers on eBay, so you might keep looking.
But couldn't you keep the single pannier for commuting or utility travel? I use a single pannier all the time (although it's smaller than yours...) but have no problem with balance.
In fact, I did a weekend trip recently with two panniers on the front and a single on the back. I had no problem whatsoever.

I assume paintings done by you?
Why would you ever check anything this valuable? I'm not an artist but I would think this is something any amount of money could replace.
I relly hope you find your luggage.

OK, here's the deal now. I finally heard back from Axiom, 3 weeks after sending them an e-mail. I don't have a copy of the e-mail I sent, but basically, I said that I asked a few LBS if I could buy a single pannier to replace my missing one.
This is what they said.
Hi ijgrant
Sorry for the late reply. You can go into a local Axiom retailer and they will be able to help you with this problem.
We can deal with the dealer directly.
We hope this has helped
Thank you for supporting us. We hope that you are satisfied with our response.
Sincerely,
The Axiom Web Team
I'm kind of upset that Axiom would give me the run around like this. They seem to be unreachable. I can't find a phone number or mailing address.

Axiom is Norco, so it may be best to just contact Norco in Canada direct.
Argh, sorry to hear you lost your paintings! Bummer!
-As for buying a single pannier (likely a different brand):
?Try the touring store (excellent customer service) or perhaps Jandd (often has closeouts/odds etc).
Also keep an eye on Craigslist if your in/near a large Metro area, may be able to buy a descent used pair.
As Gerv mentions above, keep an eye on e-bay as well.
I tried once contacting Axiom.....got the same run around...mever answered multiple emails and then after 2 months a reply email like you got...they just don't give a dman
anyway here is a place to buy, but your going to have to buy a new set it looks like
