I'm going to my accountant on Saturday and wanted to get a flat 20'ish mile ride in while I'm down there...

Anyone have a suggestion for a ride starting near the 580/680 junction? Thanks!

Iron Horse trail all the way up to Walnut Creek. It's flat, has no car but can have a lot of pedestrians.

San Ramon Valley Blvd all the way out to Danville/Alamo/Walnut Creek Out-N-Back will do it for you. Whereabouts will you be starting?

That'll do, and it is a nice ride with lots of opportunity for food/coffee/people watching. Lots of fellow cyclists, nice bike lanes, and cooperative/courteous traffic. From the Park N' Ride lot at Bollinger/680, it is about 19-20 miles out to the north end of the blvd and back. It is a slight downhill going, anda slight uphill coming back (1-2%). Starting from closer to the 580/680 interchange will add another 10 miles or so.

I'd press to join you, but I'll be participating in the Tour De Scottsdale this weekend.

A couple options going north assuming you'll be somewhere near Owens and Hopyard. I don't really like going over 580 or 680 on the nearby overcrossings so both lead through the Dublin BART station along the Iron Horse Trail toward Dublin. There's plenty of places to stop and rest/eat especially along San Ramon Valley Blvd.

Option 1 (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/pleasanton/859377777605) is a little over 24 miles and has decent bike lanes. A short stretch of Bollinger Canyon Road has little to no bike lane but I've never had any problem with it. This can be done clockwise or counterclockwise.

Option 2 (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/pleasanton/784184829402) is an out and back all the way to Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon. I threw in a little loop to get you a wee bit of a downhill section on Bollinger Canyon Road towards San Ramon Valley Blvd.

Maybe someone can put something together towards the Livermore area.

Hope this helps!

Careful with option 1. Dougherty is under construction right now, and there is zero clearance on the right side of the road going south to north. If you're going to do this loop, you're better off running it in the reverse - going up San Ramon Valley Blvd and following the route described all the way to and including Bollinger Cyn. But instead of continuing on Dougherty, take a left on Windemere Pkwy (it goes all the way through now) to Camino Tassajara. Then take a right on Dublin Blvd and rejoin the original route at the Pleasanton BART station. Safer, about the same mileage, and more scenic.

I do these routes all the time. The climb up Windemere is casual, the descent on the other side is wide open, and Camino Tassajara - while a bit narrow - is fast and nice.

Thanks BBM. Haven't been on Dougherty for a couple months now. Great suggestion for a detour.
