I got sick of it always rubbing. I could never get it to spin freely so today I just removed it. Who needs front brakes anyway !! My rears work just fine. Saves weight too.

are you guys such bad riders that you NEED both brakes ? i dont. i ride hills ALOT and cruise on the down hills. if i was one of those loser "down hill only extreme dorks" then i might need some front brakes.

I, for one, think it is great. It is like survival of the fittest right before our eyes. Have someone send us your obituary.

I use my front break more than anything. And I don't slow down ever. I don't see how you could go without.

Old habits die hard. I use my rear brake more due to my BMX background.

I'm both and I've just gotten used to the fact that one of my rotors will always rub because one is always slightly warped. I dont care.

Same here. If I wanted free spinning I'd go back to post mount brakes.:roflmao2:

It's a new type of load-bearing decal that all manufacturers released early this year, due to defective imported steel and aluminum and most carbon. Almost all major brands were affected. If you don't apply the LBD's then you're bike is prone to catastrophically failing. I think originally the decals were available for free, but now that the warranty coverage for them is up it's around 2 or 3 bills for a set.

More like we are smart enough to think that riding offroad without a front brake is pure and simply a huge mistake that will hurt you and/or someone else. So before you call someone stupid, you may want to step back for a minute and actually think.

A little factoid here:

Once the rear brake is engaged it loses 50-70% of it's power due to weight transfer and rolling momentum, the front is there to stop you, the rear is to slow you down.

Do me a favor.......

Take out a Million Dollar Life insurance policy and make me the beneficiary, because you are seriously going to kill yourself eventually riding off road with no front brake.

some people ride their mountain bike on roads when they need to ride 75-100 miles on training rides and there arent trails that long anyone nearby. D'OH !!!

Another awesome thread.

Most people I know who "need to ride 75-100 miles on training rides" have a road bike for that.

Are you such a bad rider that you don't know how to use the front brake properly and skid all over the place.

Here is the physics. When you head downhill, you transfer most of your mass to the front wheel. This means that the rear wheel is VERY ineffective for braking downhill. You have probably already noticed that when you grab onto that rear brake, the rear wheel brakes away and you start skidding sideways. This is not a good recipe for control.

I try to avoid hitting the brakes as much as possible. But when I need them to abate my speed for a hard turn ... I need them and the front brake IS the most effective.

That's actually worse. I kid you not. 70-75% of your emergency stopping capability is in your front wheel. Simple physics of weight transfer.

Now, you go ahead and do it how you want, it's your body, but I'd be hesitanty to even get on a bike with a hand brake on the rear wheel only, ESPECIALLY in traffic.

This isn't the Mountain Bikes forum, this is the Mountain Biking forum. There is a difference especially if you removed a front brake and implied that you don't use this bike on any trails.

That number seems low. The supremely skilled can make that 100% pretty easily (not me, I ain't that good). 70%-75% seems low though. I'd think more like 85%-90%. Still, the point you're correctly making is that the front brake is by far the most important.

Even on the flats.

Even on the road.

then that would mean this forum is only for riding that OCCURS in the MOUNTAINS and could also be road bikes ridden in the mountains. either one of those definitions apply to my post :)

While you argue these semantics, it doesn't nullify you're idiocy for removing a front brake and then bragging about it. Where do you live so that we can look out for your obituary? I really want to see it.
